The decision comes as Harris prepares to embark on a major promotional tour for her memoir 107 Days, about her brief 2024 presidential campaign, due for release on September 23.

According to the Washington Post, a senior White House official said the president sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on August 28, formally requesting the end of Secret Service protection for Kamala Harris, effective September 1.

Normally, outgoing vice presidents receive Secret Service protection for six months after the end of their term.

In view of the country’s unprecedented political tensions, Joe Biden had extended Kamala Harris’s protection for another year, until July 2026.

Trump’s decision will have a considerable impact on the life of Kamala Harris, who is about to embark on her book tour.

The end of her 24/7 federal protection could force Kamala Harris to hire private security for her tour, which begins on September 24 in New York and ends on November 20 in Miami, Florida.

In the meantime, she will visit California, Texas, Illinois, Alabama, Tennessee and even Canada.
