Like Fox News, Newsmax must pay

After the landmark 2023 settlement forcing Fox News to pay Dominion Voting Systems $787 million for broadcasting false information about the 2020 presidential election, a similar new court case has just concluded.

This time, conservative TV network Newsmax is being forced to pay a hefty sum, as it is also accused of intentionally spreading false claims about Dominion’s voting machines during the same election.

Newsmax has agreed to pay Dominion Voting Systems $67 million in instalments over three years, well below the $1.6 billion claimed in the original complaint in 2021.

Newsmax explained that it had agreed to a settlement on the grounds that it would not have received a fair trial, while continuing to deny that its reporting had been defamatory.

Remember that in September 2024, the chain had already signed a similar agreement with Smartmatic for $40 million.

Three close Trump allies have been sued for defamation by Dominion Voting Systems, including Rudy Giuliani, whose lawsuit has been suspended due to his bankruptcy and no trial date has been set, and Sidney Powell, who settled out of court for an undisclosed amount.

In June 2025, Mike Lindell was ordered to pay $2.3 million.
