Trump was indeed booed at the U.S. Open

A native New Yorker, Donald Trump was back in his hometown as a guest of Rolex on Sunday, at the U.S. Open final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

In fact, the game was due to start at 2pm, but due to security preparations surrounding the President, the game started at around 2:48pm. Long threads of people were still waiting outside Arthur Ashe Stadium at this point…

And when Trump was introduced on screen during the game, most of the crowd didn’t hold back from booing him for long seconds during the national anthem, while very few people applauded him.

The 79-year-old offered his detractors a wry smile, ultimately creating an even greater wave of booing during his second screen appearance.

The United States Tennis Association had issued a statement to the media, in order to avoid sharing reactions to Trump’ s presence in the stadium. That said, with the powerful machine that is the internet, the videos will still have made the rounds.

Former President of the USA, Barack Obama still gets love when he visits stadiums, unlike Trump, as evidenced by this clip from a Los Angeles Clippers game a few months back.

Trump ‘s last appearance at the U.S Open was in 2015, when he ran for the Republican Party leadership in his first term. He had also been booed at that time.
