Trump now blamed more than Biden for affordability crisis by Americans

As Trump continues to cry «con job by Democrats» to explain public concerns about the economy and affordability since his return to the Oval Office, CNN reports that Americans now place him at the top of the list of people to blame for the country’s economic situation.

In a Fox News interview, Trump was quick to accuse Democrats of manufacturing the crisis, yet he now faces a clear shift in public perception: more voters see him as responsible for the state of the economy than they ever did Biden.

While Biden often downplayed the inflation problem during his presidency, Trump’s denial goes even further—insisting that everything is perfect under his leadership. The public, however, disagrees. Most Americans now hold Trump accountable for the ongoing affordability crisis, even as he dismisses polls on economic anxiety as «fake».

Speaking about the state of the economy with Laura Ingraham on Fox News, Trump said «The economy is as strong as it’s ever been,» then rebuffed Ingraham’s question about public anxiety by saying «I don’t know they are saying that. The polls are fake. We have the greatest economy we’ve ever had.» Trump insisted on the point, saying «More than anything else, it’s a con job by the Democrats.»

According to CNN, even if headline indicators aren’t clearly worse than under Biden, the politics are: the economy has become a heavier political burden for Trump. In recent polls show 61% say Trump’s policies have worsened economic conditions, 60% blame him for inflation, and majorities expect his tariffs to raise prices.

For once, the narrative is slipping from Trump’s control: polling now paints a picture he can’t spin away. A CNN/SSRS survey shows 61% say his policies have worsened economic conditions; a Washington Post–ABC News–Ipsos poll finds 59% blame him at least a good amount for inflation; and CBS/YouGov data shows most Americans think he’s focused too much on tariffs that will raise prices rather than on lowering costs.

Trump has made the economy the centerpiece of his reelection campaign, portraying himself as the only one capable of restoring prosperity. His rallies and ads focus heavily on inflation, jobs, and trade, framing affordability as the ultimate test of his leadership — even as polls show public trust slipping.
