I know everyone (me included) is fawning over potatoes and how much of a gift they are. And I know it won’t ever reach the level of what happened in April 1847, when Berlin erupted over them in what history now calls the “Potato Revolution.” You may have the wrong image planted in your mind, though (as I did the first time I heard of it). No, nobody was genuinely trying to topple the Prussian monarchy in the name of a root vegetable! Here’s how our beloved vegetable got tangled up in a political revolution.
