Buffets offer a wide variety of food. Imagine browsing different food options to customize your plate, then stuffing yourself to the brim. And if you manage to squeeze in room, you can help yourself to the heaping options of dessert.

With the pluses come the downsides of these layouts, and what one man allegedly spotted by the desserts at Golden Corral is Exhibit A.

Dishing Up The Ick At Golden Corral

While standing in a Golden Corral dessert section, TikTok creator Bean2x (@24bean2x) unveils what he found in a short clip. Then, he zooms in on the brownie platter, revealing what appears to be almost an entire side of one of the squares missing, with crumbs at the bottom.  

Needless to say, the content creator regrets it. “My nephew kept asking for Golden Corral. I'm mad asl I gave in,” Bean2x captions the video.

Viewers Argue Fiercely

Bean2x's video amassed 1.7 million views, and many in the comments section got into a heated debate about whether the brownie was tampered with.

“Someone took a bite and put it back. Lmao,” one viewer commented.

“Mfs hadda taste it see if they wanted ts,” another concurred.

“You know somebody little bad [a–] kid snuck a bite when they couldn't have one,” a third remarked.

Meanwhile, others vehemently disagreed, believing this was merely crumbs that could've fallen off the treat.

“They are called crumbs,” one commenter stated.

“Oh no !!! Some crumbs fell on the counter,” a second echoed.

“Doesn't really look like a bite and could just not grab one lol,” a third said.

Are Buffets Unsanitary?

Regardless of whether someone did bite into the brownie, buffets are notorious for harboring lots of bacteria. For one, customers' hygiene practices can make them unsanitary. For example, dozens upon dozens of people touch the same utensils at self-serve stations, which can leave room for cross-contamination.

In fact, the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases survey found that 20% of Americans choose not to wash their hands. Not washing your hands can transmit all sorts of illnesses, such as Salmonella, E. Coli, and Norovirus. While that's less than a quarter of respondents, just think of all the potential unwashed hands you're sharing utensils with.

Of course, there's also the possibility of customers who've handled the meals with their bare hands or even snuck a bite of something only to return it where they found it. It's not only adults you have to be worried about, but children who run rampant in the buffet, putting their hands on everything. When discussing buffet uncleanliness, Mashed reported an incident in which an unsupervised child allegedly touched the ice cream machine with their grubby hands.

So, exercise caution if you decide to dine at a buffet.
