Ryan Reynolds gave his fans a huge treat during his appearance at Fanatics Fest 2026. The Canadian actor confirmed that a fourth Deadpool movie is indeed in development at Marvel Studios, immediately reigniting the enthusiasm of millions of fans of the famous, sharp-tongued mercenary.

Following the phenomenal success of Deadpool & Wolverine, which surpassed $1 billion at the global box office and breathed new life into superhero movies aimed at adult audiences, the announcement seemed almost inevitable. For now, the project is still in its early stages, and no screenwriter or director has been chosen yet.

Ryan Reynolds will, however, return to the role that transformed his career and has become one of the most popular characters in the Marvel Universe. Even though no release date has been announced, this confirmation alone is enough to raise expectations.

One thing is certain: Wade Wilson isn't done breaking the fourth wall or making audiences around the world laugh.

Some details are missing

Ryan Reynolds also took advantage of his appearance at Fanatics Fest 2026 to reveal one of the main reasons driving him to develop Deadpool 4. According to the actor, several iconic aspects of the comics have yet to be fully explored on the big screen.

In particular, he wants to highlight certain facets of Wade Wilson, his relationships with other characters in the Marvel Universe, and the irreverent humor that made the comics so successful.

“There are some really underappreciated elements that, in my opinion, are missing from the movies. I think there are some missing from certain comics as well. There are definitely passages I love, written by Fabian Nicieza [co-creator of Deadpool], that are incredible. Gerry Duggan, who was a friend of mine, was an incredible comic book writer. There are projects in the works. Eventually, there will be another Deadpool movie, even if it's not right away. It's going to be awesome,” Ryan Reynolds says into the microphone.

His goal is clear: to deliver a fourth film that stays true to the spirit of the comics while offering a brand-new adventure capable of exceeding fans' expectations.

Another massive box-office hit in the making

Since its debut in 2016, the Deadpool franchise has established itself as one of the most lucrative in the history of R-rated films. Produced on a budget of just $58 million, the first film took the world by surprise, grossing nearly $782 million at the global box office.

Two years later, Deadpool 2 did even better, grossing approximately $786 million, confirming the character's immense popularity. The real phenomenon, however, came in 2024 with Deadpool & Wolverine, which shattered all records by grossing more than 1.338 billion U.S. dollars worldwide. It thus became the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, surpassing Joker.

With a cumulative total of over $2.9 billion across its three films, the franchise is now among the biggest commercial successes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

An Appearance in Avengers?

Since the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, rumors about Wade Wilson appearing in an upcoming Avengers movie have been swirling.

Many observers believe that his inclusion among Marvel's most powerful heroes is only a matter of time, especially after his official entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Speculation centers in particular on a role in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars, two productions expected to bring together numerous characters from across the multiverse. Ryan Reynolds recently fueled these discussions by stating that Deadpool works particularly well when he's alongside other superheroes, rather than on his own. Despite this enthusiasm, Marvel Studios has yet to officially confirm anything.

For now, fans will have to make do with the many theories circulating, while they wait for an announcement that could mark a major turning point for the character's future within the MCU.

By the way, here's the trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, which was released earlier this week.
