During a campaign rally in Georgia, Ossoff criticized Trump’s priorities and accused him of neglecting presidential responsibilities. After saying Trump «doesn’t want to do the job,» Ossoff brought Harp into his attack, referring to the president’s travel with her. The comments were widely interpreted as questioning the nature of Harp’s unusually close relationship with Trump.

Ossoff’s remarks quickly generated backlash from Trump’s allies and the White House, with critics accusing the Democratic senator of making a sexist insinuation about a female staff member. Harp became particularly recognizable around Trump for carrying a laptop and portable printer, allowing her to quickly provide him with articles, social media posts and other material. That constant presence eventually became closely associated with her work. Her access also gave her an important position in the flow of information reaching Trump, despite not occupying a senior policy or Cabinet-level position.

Harp’s proximity became especially visible during a security operation in Turkey in July. After a threat prompted security officials to secretly transfer Trump to another aircraft, Harp was included among the small group accompanying him. Her presence alongside some of Trump’s closest aides demonstrated how firmly she had become embedded within the president’s immediate traveling circle.

While Harp accompanied Trump during the discreet transfer, senior administration officials including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent remained aboard the larger aircraft that departed separately. Harp’s inclusion in Trump’s smaller group attracted particular attention because her official position as an executive assistant placed her well below Cabinet officials in the formal hierarchy of the administration.

Scrutiny has also surrounded intensely personal messages Harp reportedly wrote to Trump. Among the lines attributed to handwritten notes were «You are all that matters to me» and «I want to bring you joy.» The language reportedly concerned some people within Trump’s orbit, although allies have characterized their relationship differently and described Harp’s loyalty in terms of a close father-daughter dynamic.
