Trump Rages Against CNN, Politico and MS NOW as They Sue Over White House Ban

Donald Trump unleashed a lengthy attack against CNN, Politico and MS NOW after the three organizations sued his administration to regain White House access. The confrontation erupted just as the administration launched «Trump TV,» bringing Trump’s restrictions on independent media and his new government-produced digital channel together in a striking escalation of his long-running media battle.

Trump responded directly on Truth Social, attacking the organizations and questioning their right to White House access. «As expected, Fake News CNN, Politico (Pay back the 8 Million Dollar contribution made by the U.S. Government to keep them afloat!), and MSNOW (formerly known as MSDNC!), have brought suit to gain access to the White House, and your President, ME!»

Trump then targeted Judge Timothy J. Kelly, the federal judge assigned to the lawsuit and someone Trump appointed during his first administration. «They have drawn a great Judge, for them, a man who ruled in favor of Jim Acosta, who now seems to have disappeared from the Planet. The Judge’s name is Tim Kelly, and he was, sadly, appointed by “TRUMP.”»

Kelly previously handled CNN correspondent Jim Acosta’s 2018 credential dispute, granting temporary relief before his credential was eventually restored. Trump suggested another unfavorable decision could produce an appeal, writing, «In other words, almost without question and, as usual, we’ll go for appeal» while accusing the organizations of publishing negative stories based on unknown sources.

The confrontation began September 18 when Trump announced that CNN, MS NOW and Politico would no longer be allowed on White House grounds. «The White House is immediately banning CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from the grounds because they constantly write or report fiction and lies,» Trump declared. Their journalists subsequently had their White House credentials disabled or confiscated.

Trump rejected accusations that the move constituted an attack on press freedom. «This is not an assault on the Free Press, something which I cherish. It is instituting an assault on the FAKE NEWS,» he wrote. Trump maintained that White House access is a privilege rather than a right and said no single report had triggered his decision.

CNN, Politico and MS NOW responded by jointly suing the administration, alleging violations of First Amendment press protections and Fifth Amendment due-process rights. Their case argues that the government cannot revoke journalists’ access in retaliation for coverage officials dislike. The organizations are seeking judicial intervention that would allow their reporters to return to the White House grounds.

The dispute expanded when ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and Fox News suspended their participation in pooled television coverage after CNN was prevented from fulfilling its scheduled assignment. «Effective today, there would be no network pool coverage of the president’s events,» the television pool announced. The move disrupted a longstanding system for sharing presidential footage among news organizations.

At almost exactly the same time, the administration launched «TRUMP TV: The Essentials Station,» a continuous digital stream operating through the official White House YouTube channel. The service carries presidential remarks, administration announcements and selected highlights around the clock, giving the White House another mechanism to distribute its own video directly to Americans without depending on traditional news organizations.

The administration is simultaneously promoting its official White House mobile application, offering another direct pipeline for government announcements and live events. The timing has drawn particular attention because these government-controlled platforms are expanding while three independent organizations remain excluded from White House grounds. Unlike independent news coverage, the administration determines which material appears through its own digital channels.

Trump continued defending his approach while speaking to reporters in New York. «I think that these outlets have an obligation to be fair,» he said. He also dismissed the networks’ decision to suspend pooled coverage: «It’s interesting because they said they were gonna boycott me. But they never boycott me.» The legal battle now places White House press access before a federal court.
