Donald Trump intensified his pressure on Iran on Wednesday, declaring that Tehran would «pay the price» for taking «too long» to negotiate after a new round of military escalation between the two countries. The latest tensions followed U.S. retaliatory «self-defense strikes» launched after an American Apache helicopter was brought down near the Strait of Hormuz, an incident Trump blamed directly on Iran. As Washington and Tehran exchanged threats and military responses, the president portrayed Iran as a weakened adversary that had missed its opportunity to secure a favorable peace agreement, while also renewing his long-running criticism of the media and defending the effectiveness of the U.S. naval blockade.
