Woman goes to Smoothie King. Then she tastes something weird – and melts her smoothie down just to see what this strange object is
There's fine dining, there's casual dining, and then, there's fast food. This holy trinity of culinary experiences provides a bevy of options for folks to sate their hunger outside of their home. And if you're looking for something cheap and quick that tastes good without necessarily offering a high-tier gastric experience, fast food is usually a safe bet.
However, grabbing a quick bite can be a game of chance. One woman realized this after grabbing a smoothie at Smoothie King that had an extra, unwelcome ingredient in it.
What did this woman find in her smoothie?
Mother and content creator Alsmidlifetravels (@alsmidlifetravels) posted footage of a less-than-desirable order from Smoothie King, complete with a suspicious lump. The video has since accumulated more than 342,000 views.
“This is for anybody who works at Smoothie King,” the creator said, her camera pointed at pink smoothie liquid in her kitchen strainer, a lump apparent in the goop. “Can you tell me what this could have possibly been that I found in my smoothie today?”
The creator then took a water nozzle attached to her sink and began spraying it at the strainer, which diluted the pink smoothie liquid. As the smoothie liquid began to drain, the lump became more clearly visible.
The foreign object appeared to be a misshapen hunk of broken-off plastic, complete with jagged edges. The creator detailed her dissatisfaction in her caption.
“I've been an avid @smoothieking customer & today was just negligence,” she wrote. “How do you miss these giant plastic pieces in the blender & pouring into a cup? If you work at Smoothie King, what was this?”

Multiple Smoothie King employees weigh in
Answering the creator's call, multiple self-identified Smoothie King employees swooped into her comment section to explain what she was looking at. Apparently, a part of a Smoothie King juice blender had wound up in her drink.
“Looks like one of the things we use to make sure our juice bottle pumps don't go down in storage,” one employee commented. “Just looks a little beat up cause of the blender lol sorry that happened (it's clean though if that helps).”
The creator replied and asked how a plastic part like that could get inside a blender in the first place. Another alleged employee responded, “Someone probably dumped the rest of the juice in the bottle into the blender before blending. it's happened a time or two at our location but luckily we caught it before it was blended.”
Then, another supposed employee expressed their shock at the creator finding “a piece to the juice pumps” in her smoothie. The creator then described how she discovered it.
“Yep, now imagine little pieces of plastic coming up through the straw,” she wrote. “After the second sip with plastic (the first sip I thought was a fluke) I stopped drinking it & poured it into a strainer at home to find all that.”
Other Smoothie King customers have taken to the internet before with reports of finding bits of plastic in their drinks. One Redditor reported that “1/6th of [their] smoothie” was made up of small bits of plastic, resulting in the smoothie tasting flavorless and having a texture “like plastic beads.” Another customer took to TripAdvisor to report “blue pieces of plastic in [their] smoothie.”
