I blame the young adult genre for making me so obsessed with Greek and Roman mythology as a teenager that I sometimes still catch remnants of those old beliefs and behaviors in myself. No, I don’t leave offerings for Zeus, but there are moments when tempting fate feels like a genuinely bad idea, and I know exactly who to blame for that. The funny thing is, all those books taught me plenty about the big-name gods while leaving out the ones Romans apparently needed for much more pressing concerns.
