45-year-old woman goes on date with 52-year-old man. Then he asks how old she is: ‘Gave me the ultimate ick’
As the decades pass, age can be a sticky subject for people. However, it's one of the most important pieces of information a person can give a prospective partner.
Unfortunately, one woman says her latest first date ran the night straight into the ground after her age came up.
‘The Way Disappointment Swept Over His Whole Energetic Field'
Content creator Keelee (@koi_luv) shares a story about a recent first date while sitting in her car. Her video has since accumulated more than 75,000 views.
“Went on a date,” Keelee says. “Healthy, handsome, successful 52-year-old man.”
The date seemed to be going well until the “subject of age [came] up.”
Keelee says the man apparently had been hoping for a much younger woman. As such, he handled it poorly when he “[discovered] that he asked out a 45-year-old woman, not a 35-year-old woman.”
Keelee says she was not impressed by his reaction.
“The way disappointment swept over his whole energetic field set me back,” she says. “Gave me the ultimate ick.”
Viewers in Keelee's comment section were quick to condemn older men who seek out significantly younger women in the dating pool.
“He's in denial about his own age,” one viewer wrote.
“Men disgust me,” another commented. “My age 53 want 25 year olds.”
One viewer even assumed malicious intentions, writing that the man's “dream of impressing and controlling a woman went out the window.”
Do Older Men Prefer Younger Partners?
A 2024 study shared by Psychology Today analyzed 35,996 couples across 29 countries.
It found that “the older people get, the more they prefer to have a younger partner if they start a new relationship.” But notably, “this effect is stronger in men than in women.”
“Specifically, for every 5 years of age, the preferred age difference at the beginning of a new relationship between a man and his partner grew by about 1 additional year,” Psychology Today reported.
There is some discrepancy between stated preferences and in-person attraction, however. A 2025 study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences analyzed about 4,500 blind dates among more than 6,000 people ages 22 to 85.
The study found that both men and women were slightly more attracted to younger partners on the date itself. The age limits participants reported before the experiment had no bearing on their actual choices.
