After being mostly silent on this topic for weeks, Donald Trump returned to attack mode on Canada, publishing a hard-hitting message on Truth Social on the very day of the Canadian federal election, once again attacking the country and calling for the election of the man who would transform it, while again insinuating that Canada would become the 51st state of the United States. His message suggesting people vote… for him (!) is seen by many as an attempt to interfere and influence the outcome of a democratic election.

Many denounce this as a clear attempt to interfere and influence the outcome of a democratic election in Canada.

This new outing comes after several months during which Donald Trump had multiplied his threats against Canada, deeply shaking public opinion by asserting that the country would become the 51st American state and suggesting that Justin Trudeau, then Prime Minister, would be relegated to the role of Governor of Canada.

The shockwave had already caused a dramatic fall in Pierre Poilievre’s Conservative Party, once leading in the polls, but then distanced due to its direct alignment with Donald Trump’s policy positions.

Mark Carney, the new Liberal Party leader succeeding Justin Trudeau, took advantage of this turnaround to take a lead in the polls.

Trump’s intervention, published on the very day of the election, was strongly denounced. Although Trump does not name any candidate directly, the message is shocking.
