A woman went on the worst first date she's ever had after a man revealed a shocking detail about his dating life.

Chaosangel420 (@chaosangel420) posted a storytime about a date in Washington, D.C., which went sour. In it, she described a few of the ways she and her Hinge date completely misaligned. She realized very quickly he wasn't interested in a long-term relationship, despite putting it on his profile. Then he said something off-putting that gave her the ick so badly that she didn't want to drive him home.

As of this writing, the content creator's video has more than one million views.

What red flags first appeared?

The first sketchy thing that she noticed was that he asked if she wanted to park at his apartment.

”I asked all my girlfriends. I was like, ‘Do you think this is sketchy that he's asking me to park at his apartment? Cause it's giving you wanna invite me up later, and I'm not giving that.' So after talking to the girls, I was like, ‘You know what? I'm just gonna drive and park on the street, and we can meet at the front.'”

This wasn't a big deal at first, but she noticed the difference in how they approached the situation. When she arrived, everything was normal. She learned he didn't drink, so they ordered mocktails and started chatting. They seemed to align on most things, and the conversation was flowing.

That's when he said something that raised another red flag. “ I'm so sorry, like I'm having such a good time, but I like just have to tell you that your voice reminds me of someone that I work with that I hate,” the man said.

The content creator didn't know how to reply. She apologized, but she seemingly found the comment unnecessary. “ What the [expletive] am I supposed to say to that? So I'm like, ‘Oh, like, Sorry, um, should I shut the [expletive] up?' … He's like, ‘Oh, no, no, like I'm having a good time,'” Chaosangel420 said.

The conversation eventually switched to another topic.

What was the shocking comment?

The man asked her what she was looking for, and she turned the question toward him. His answer was a third red flag. “ Yeah, I like… I'm Muslim, I don't drink, I don't smoke but, you know, I like to [expletive],” Chaosangel420 recalled the man saying.

She asked the man what he thought he was going to get out of the encounter, and he explained that he was hoping to hook up. He then tried to ask whether she was willing to come over.

When she asked why he had “long-term relationship” selected on his Hinge profile, the man said that it was because if a woman who was religiously and culturally aligned happened to match with him, he would pursue a relationship with her.

Then he said something shocking. “He, like, proceeded to tell me that, like, he's [expletive], like, three girls in one day before,” Chaosangel420 said. The man showed her his Hinge and told her he had so many matches that he couldn't keep up with them. She got the “ick” quickly.

Eventually, he asked whether or not they could go back to his place, and she told him no. He asked if she would be willing to drive him back to his apartment, and she said no again.

“He was like, ‘at least you have a funny story to tell your roommate.' Go [expletive] yourself,” Chaosangel420 said.

The anti-dating app movement

Commenters quickly added their thoughts about the Hinge date. More than a few viewers said that they have had similar experiences to Chaosangel420's. They have since deleted dating apps entirely.

An AppsFlyer survey covered by Newsweek in 2024 found that roughly 65% of Gen Z individuals who used dating apps deleted them within a month. Other publications, such as Business Insider, have described large numbers of dating app users leaving the platforms after having “terrible experiences” and seeing “oversaturation.”

Viewers, too, recommended a switch away from the platforms.

One commenter said, “My dad told me ‘putting yourself on a dating app is like putting yourself on clearance' & now It's all I tell myself when I think about downloading an app.”

Another commenter added, “All dating apps should shut down and go back to meeting people organically.”

Other viewers who have continued using dating apps say they have established specific rules for going on dates. “I don't meet for drinks, I don't go to parks, I don't go to apartments/houses or let them pick me up, and I don't meet for dates after sunset. The first meeting is always coffee or something where I can walk out at the first red flag,” one viewer said.

Chaosangel420 said she would adopt a similar approach in the future.
