Getting left by a partner can be soul-crushing, but it's even worse when there's someone else in the picture. It can make one feel like they're unworthy or inadequate, especially when comparing themselves to the new beau.
But what happens if a person gets left for someone that doesn't even exist?
One woman described the shocking and incredibly painful way she got dumped, and it wasn't because there was another woman. She was left because her partner started to have inappropriate thoughts about an AI-generated image.
“ If you're having a bad day, just know that I just got dumped this morning over an AI girl. Like, an AI girl just got picked over me,” Savannah (@savsilby) said in a post that has more than 809,000 views. As of this writing, the content creator's post has over a thousand comments.
Savannah's experience
While Savannah posted a quick video explaining that she was dumped over an “AI girl,” it wasn't until later that she created an update letting her audience know exactly what happened.
Savannah prefaced her video by telling her audience that her ex liked brunettes. The content creator, who is decidedly blonde, wasn't interested in dyeing her hair, with or without the relationship. Her ex, however, encouraged her to dye it.
Savannah said that the situation started because her sister was selling a table on Facebook Marketplace. At first, no one was interested in the item. Then Savannah and her sister decided to get creative.
“ So I was like, ‘Yo, let me do that trend where people put a hot AI girl on the post, and then it sells,'” Savannah said. “ So I did that. I did this picture, right? I didn't think anything of it.”
Savannah showed a picture of the “hot girl” to her boyfriend while discussing how funny it was. According to her, the post was suddenly getting clicks thanks to the AI woman. But later, her boyfriend let her know that he was attracted to the woman in the picture.
Savannah thought it was strange that he told her he was attracted to another woman, AI or not. But the situation got stranger. Her boyfriend gave her the silent treatment throughout the weekend and then dropped a bombshell days later. He wanted to end their relationship.

What did commenters say?
Viewers were flabbergasted by Savannah's ex in the wake of her post.
“Wanted you to change your hair color?! … uhhh no. I'm glad that you didn't change yourself for him. You'll find someone better!!” one person said.
Another added, “Trying to make you a brunette?? Why was he your biggest hater you suit your hair soooo much.”
But other viewers theorized that her boyfriend wanted to break up for some time.
“[It] sounds like that had been on his mind for a while,” one viewer said. “do not get back with him. I guarantee this is one of the biggest blessings in disguise you've had in your life. seriously, I'm [100%]… sure.”
Are people ending relationships because of AI?
There's been an increase in “AI relationships” and dalliances, according to Wired. The publication says that “there is a growing belief that AI romances should be treated like human ones.” Some adults reportedly prefer AI relationships to real-life ones, according to the Institute for Family Studies. Now more than ever, people are relying on AI to fulfill gaps they see in their relationships, regardless of potential negative consequences.
On the flipside, some people use AI for relationship advice or as a personal journal, which can create its own string of issues. According to Match, 26% of singles use AI to advance their dating life. Sources such as The Conversation report that overuse of AI can negatively impact individuals. The publication says that AI can “consolidate a one-sided interpretation far too quickly and, ultimately, train expectations that real relationships struggle to meet.”
For Savannah, though, many viewers said that AI technically “helped” her. Commenters optimistically said her being left by her ex opens the door for future opportunities.
One commenter said, “you could be the best peach on the tree but if someone doesn't like peaches it doesn't matter. You will find the perfect person for you. You deserve better!”
