Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is adding another string to his bow. Already known as one of professional wrestling's biggest stars and a Hollywood powerhouse, the 54-year-old giant is now returning to music with a particularly personal song.
Titled “Your Dad,” this moving pop ballad appears on Moana: Voices Across the Ocean, a new album inspired by the world of Moana and accompanying the recent live-action adaptation of the famous Disney film.
For this track, Dwayne Johnson teamed up with Iam Tongi, the 2023 winner of American Idol, with whom he co-wrote the song. Far from the muscular, spectacular image that made him famous, the former WWE champion reveals a much softer side here: that of a father deeply devoted to his daughters. With “Your Dad,” Johnson transforms his experience as a “girl dad” into a heartfelt tribute to the relationship between a father and his child.

A Career Change?
This foray into the music world might not be just a one-off experience for Dwayne Johnson. After lending his voice to several songs in the Moana universe, the star is now open to the idea of continuing in this vein, as he recently admitted to Rolling Stone.
Without confirming that he's working on an album or a specific project, “The Rock” says he might consider a more serious return to music if the right opportunity comes along soon.
“I'm exploring that right now, and I appreciate you asking. Throughout my life, I've been very fortunate to be part of some truly amazing projects, and I love it. But music has always been such an anchor for me, especially in the genres I love, like country music—traditional country. And we're exploring that right now,” he revealed enthusiastically.

On Familiar Ground
This isn't Dwayne Johnson's first foray into the music industry, however. As early as 2000, when he was best known for his wrestling persona “The Rock,” he appeared on Wyclef Jean's track “It Doesn't Matter.”
The song enjoyed considerable commercial success, climbing to number three on the UK singles chart. More than two decades later, Johnson surprised his fans once again by temporarily trading his movie lines for a few rhymes.
In 2021, he ventured into rap on “Face Off,” a song by Tech N9ne that also featured Joey Cool and King Iso. These experiences, combined with his performances in the Moana universe, show that music has been a part of his career for several years now.

His Father's Influence
If he were to take his musical journey further, Dwayne Johnson already knows which direction he'd like to go.
The actor would like to explore a blend of old-school soul and country, two genres that deeply shaped his childhood. He cites Sam Cooke and Merle Haggard, among others, as his main influences—artists his father introduced him to when he was young. A professional wrestler himself, Rocky Johnson spent a great deal of time on the road, traveling from city to city for his matches.
Dwayne Johnson recalls growing up largely in the backseat of a car, lulled by that music.
These memories now fuel his desire to write, sing, and further explore the sounds that have been with him his whole life.
