Man buys Kong Company dog toy. Now he’s accusing them of false advertising: ‘I can’t even begin to count the list’

A man called out Kong Company after giving a “tough” turtle to his dog. That's because within five minutes, his dog chewed through it.

Content creator Mike Pepperoni posted a video that has more than 838,600 views. In the clip, he called out the Kong Company, which sells dog toys, after buying a Ballistic Turtle that was supposed to stand up to strong play. It didn't take long for Mike's dog, Bean, to put the toy through its own stress test.

Bean apparently wasn't impressed by the advertising.

Mike panned his camera down in his video to reveal how his dog chewed through it. Bean left the toy lying on the ground with stuffing scattered all around it. What was supposed to be a durable toy had become a pile of plush debris in just a few minutes.

The hilarious part, to many viewers, is just how quickly the destruction happened. Five minutes is barely enough time for most dog owners to decide whether their pet likes a toy. Bean apparently skipped the test phase and went straight for demolition.

One commenter said she had “the same experience with this EXACT toy,” adding that “Timmy the turtle stood no chance!” Another commenter suggested the problem could be particularly noticeable with larger dogs. Kong Company's toys had not worked for her pit bull. She added that she tried multiple of its products, but her dog destroyed them all within minutes.

Does Kong Company have a disclaimer?

Kong Company does not actually claim that its toys are indestructible, as no safe dog toy is. It recommends supervising dogs with new toys until owners know how they play with them. 

Still, it's easy to understand why Mike felt the need to call the company out. Consumers may reasonably expect a toy to survive more than a few minutes in the jaws of a dog.

The video, however, caught Kong Company's attention. The company responded directly in the comments.

“We're sorry to hear about your experience,” wrote a Kong Company representative. They then directed Mike to the company's customer service team.

Does Kong Company really make nearly indestructible toys?

Good Housekeeping's 2025 list of nearly indestructible dog toys ranked the Kong Extreme as its “Best Overall” pick. The publication praised the toy, saying it was a durable option for long chewing sessions. 

It is worth noting that the Kong Extreme toy was not the same as the one Bean destroyed. However, Bean's five-minute demolition job also highlights a problem that goes beyond the Ballistic Turtle.

Good Housekeeping tested dog toys marketed as tough or nearly indestructible. It found that even the most durable options aren't guaranteed to survive a determined chewer. That doesn't necessarily mean Mike was wrong to question the turtle's durability, though.

But as Good Housekeeping's testing suggests, dog toy durability ultimately depends on the individual dog. Bean simply treated “tough” as a challenge and defeated his opponent in under five minutes.
