California server moves his family to Las Vegas after closing 3 restaurants. Then he receives a ‘life-changing’ tip

Service work can be unpredictable for folks whose wages depend on tips. While there are definitely broader trends, like weekends being busier than weekdays, an inexplicably slow period can leave workers out to dry financially.

But every so often, a single table changes everything. One server said that's exactly what happened to him—right when he'd hit rock bottom.

‘Lost my life savings, all my restaurants, my dad, and I had a kid'

A Las Vegas server who goes by the handle I Am Hobbz (@iamhobbz) shared a message thanking a couple of strangers for a tip that “changed [his] entire life.” His video has since accumulated more than 429,000 views.

“I'm a server in Las Vegas, and I just received a tip last night that changed my entire life,” the server began. “This message is for Lady Luck and Dude Luck.”

The server panned to his two sons with his camera. He offered his viewers some backstory.

“My wife and I had three restaurants in Los Angeles, California,” the server said. “We thought we were going to be just doing it big. Long story short, you guys, we lost everything. We lost all the restaurants. We lost all of our life savings, [and] We moved to Las Vegas.”

He said that upon their move to Vegas, they “started over from zero.”

“On top of that, my father just died at the exact same moment, and [my son] was also born at the exact same moment,” the server said. “So I have no money. Lost my life savings, all my restaurants, my dad, and I had a kid. I literally did not know what to do.”

Enter Lady and Dude Luck, who he initially didn't recognize. They left him an undisclosed but “life-changing” tip.

“I didn't even know who you were the first time I met you,” the server said. “I just loved you guys. Your family rocks too, and you just changed my entire life. That was needed more than you know.”

Who are Dude Luck and Lady Luck?

“Lady Luck,” aka Francine Maric, runs the TikTok account Lady Luck HQ. She works alongside her husband Miran Maric, who goes by Dude Luck online.

According to the Marics' official website, Lady Luck HQ launched in 2018 as a hub for casino and slot machine-related content. The couple runs a YouTube channel with more than 1.2 million subscribers, which features videos chronicling their “fun slot machine adventures.”

A 2026 profile from gambling site SoMuchPoker reports the Marics met while working in the automotive industry. Married in 2015, they now run their brand as a full-time business.

Large tips to servers have been popularly chronicled on social media. CBS News reported that the “Venmo Challenge” had creators crowdsourcing donations from followers on Venmo. Then, they'd take the money and “surprise a local server” by leaving it as a tip.

It seems the Marics follow this model by tipping servers with their casino funds. In May of this year, Lady Luck posted a video captioned, “I tipped $5,000 & had no idea it would be this emotional.” In her hashtags, she described this act of leaving a large tip as a way of “giving back.”
