‘There needs to be a Netflix doc: More single women than ever can afford luxury apartments. This concierge says ‘unleased men’ are ruining things

Neighbors can truly make or break the living experience. Living next to a quiet, private person compared to a rowdy, disruptive one makes all the difference. One woman has firsthand experience with that divide.

In a video that received more than 350,000 views, a former concierge named Dina (@hesaidshesaid01) shares her own experience with unleased men—men who live in an apartment without being on a lease.

What did she notice while working as a concierge?

In her video, Dina says that one of the biggest complaints she received while working in luxury buildings was regarding “unleased men.” She told her audience that she noticed a TikTok trend; tenants at luxury apartments would post videos saying that unleased men ruined the experience for them. Dina adds that she knows exactly what they're talking about, as she witnessed them cause mayhem.

“Even the property management team, the concierge- it was a problem for everyone,” she says.

Typically, she says these men don't work. Instead, she says they would invite friends over, steal other tenants' possessions, and break into cars. Not even holidays were exempt; she adds that they nabbed packages.

How else did these unleased men cause problems?

The content creator says that she received reports of unleased men committing acts of domestic violence. Many residents allegedly reached their breaking point due to other tenants' guests.

Dina recalled one person saying, “ I'm putting in my 60-day or 30-day notice request to move. This is triggering my trauma. I have called the police on this unit multiple times, and she keeps letting him back in, and it's to the point where as though I'm not even getting sleep because I'm in fear of something bad happening.”

Barring these men from the apartment complexes and calling the cops during disputes proved futile, she says. As a result, it's a never-ending carousel of nightmares.

“For the most part, they're there for a long time. Most people just start moving out because of those residents or the girl gets evicted,” she says. “But it doesn't matter because for one ‘Pickmisha,' there are two, three more that are gonna arrive in those buildings.”

The list of instances the content creator witnessed was horrifying. “I have seen people fighting in the hallway … Then there was a guy who was so intoxicated he fell out of the middle of the hallway with his pants down and peed in the hallway and we had to call the cops to get him escorted,” she says. “Then there was a guy who used to come downstairs every night after his [wife] left to go to work and would try to talk to me on my shift.”

Ultimately, Dina believes these men are “the downfall to those luxury apartment buildings.”

Most of the TikToker's comment section said that this is a growing epidemic.

“‘Unleased Men' could be a whole doctoral dissertation,” one viewer commented.

“There needs to be a Netflix documentary on male centered women,” a second added.

Moreover, others could attest based on their own personal encounters.

“It's terrible!! Constant weed smoke, hanging in the parking garage, leaving trash EVERYWHERE, ” one commenter said. “Nothing about it is a luxury experience.”

“When I lived in a nice apartment building in downtown Dallas over a decade ago, we had a rash of car break-ins and this was exactly the case! The culprit was an unemployed bf of a resident & two of his friends!!” a second recalled.

“Yep. My neighbor started dating and 3 months later my packages started coming up missing and I had to install a doorbell camera after living across from her for 3 years,” a third shared.

Why is it difficult to remove unleased people?

The stories the creator and viewers mentioned show that these types of men exhibit criminal behavior. Due to their background, they may not qualify to rent an apartment. They resort to infiltrating it by moving in with a legal resident, according to the Apartment Owners Association of California, Inc.

Subsequently, it can open the floodgates of unwanted and dangerous activity. The Association even echoes this: “The problem becomes acute when these unauthorized occupants are unemployed criminal types who hang out all day and all night and begin to ply their trade within your community. A symptom of this condition is people hanging out in the parking lot and high foot traffic in and out of a unit or group of units.”

Regardless of gender, anyone who stays on the premises without a lease is considered an “unauthorized occupant.” They are notoriously difficult to remove, as an unauthorized resident can gain tenant rights in some states. Therefore, the sooner the resident receives a warning notice to remove an occupant, the better.
