Tennessee woman spots hamster at Petco. Now everyone is worried about the ‘teddy bear’ hamster’s welfare: ‘Somebody please come get this’
While browsing Petco, you may encounter all kinds of animals eagerly waiting for a human to adopt them. Cats, guinea pigs, rabbits, and hamsters, to name a few, will do whatever it takes to win over a prospective owner. One particular hamster tugged at a woman's heartstrings to the point where she begged the internet to rescue it.
TikTok creator Moon (@starrynoche111) films a cream-colored hamster standing on its hind legs and its paws pressed against the glass cage at a Memphis, Tennessee, Petco. “Somebody please come get this hamster from Petco,” she says. As she pans the camera to reveal the hamster from a different angle, it remains stationary. “Oh my goodness. This hamster looks so concerned and troubled,” she says, referring to its wide black eyes. “I feel so bad.”
What did viewers think?
Moon's video amassed over 330,000 views, and many were doubtful of the hamster's intentions.
“nawwww he look bad as hell. He's an escape artist. TRUST ME,” one viewer commented.
“I loooove and have owned hamsters BUT don't be fooled by the cute ‘innocent' look. That's the look of a busy toddler,” a second stated.
“I think it's a teddy bear hamster! I had one just like it! Same color and all. But they be up all night and are escape [artists]!” a third remarked.
“Look away. He's manipulating you with that paw on the glass,” a fourth said.
“That's how I ended up with mine. He was doing the same and trust me, they are more work than I thought,” a fifth revealed.
The Petco hamster update
In true TikTok fashion, the hamster's silent “plea” captured a viewer's heart: “UPDATE: We're headed to a VERY special classroom! I've never made a TikTok before, but I will try for all her fans!”
For confirmation, Moon enters the building and approaches an empty cage where the viral hamster had been. “The hamster isn't there. It was adopted by a teacher,” she says. “So, the hamster is in good hands.” From there, she unveils all the other animals in need of loving homes, including several other Teddy Bear hamsters and various cats.

What's it like having a hamster?
Hamsters can be great additions to a family, whether you're a new or seasoned pet owner. Generally, they live two to five years and are low-maintenance animals. However, low maintenance doesn't equal low effort. For instance, hammies need daily care, such as fresh food and water, brushing (depending on the breed), bonding, and clean bedding. These are the basics to ensure your furry friend lives its best life. Before you adopt one, you need to have a specific habitat tailored to their comfort, per PetMD.
