Women go to New Jersey restaurant for margarita flight. They’re horrified when the waiter walks up with their order

People go to restaurants for many reasons. Maybe they want a cuisine they've never tried; maybe they want a change of environment; or maybe they just want someone else to cook for them. But sometimes, restaurants serve something you simply can't get anywhere else.

One pair of friends found this out by accident when their waiter brought something truly unexpected to their table.

‘When you wanted a margarita flight but accidentally ordered a margarita tower'

Content creator Keke Bee (@keke.bee) shared a video capturing her friend's reaction to their drink order. Her video has since accumulated more than 1.8 million views.

The clip opened on Bee's friend covering her mouth in disbelief, laughing. She buried her face in her hands as a waiter approached, carrying what looked like a two-and-a-half-foot tube filled with margarita. Text overlaying the video read, “When you wanted a margarita flight but accidentally ordered a margarita tower.”

Viewers were cracking up in Bee's comment section.

“You had better schedule your Uber now just to be safe,” one joked. Another commented, “Typa stuff I accidentally order when I'm tryna be nonchalant.”

Another viewer shared a cautionary tale.

“I once drank an entire margarita tower by myself,” they wrote. “I threw up in the bathroom of the restaurant right after finishing my last drink and had to have 2 people I was with help walk me out. All at like 7:00 p.m. on a Tuesday.”

Bee's friend from the video added her own comment, alongside a photo from the moment.

“He even knew we [messed] up,” she wrote, under a picture of another customer looking at their tower in apparent concern.

How much margarita is in a margarita tower?

Individual restaurants appear to set their own tower proportions. However, taking a look at restaurant menus can give us a sense of scale.

Massachusetts restaurant Barrett's Alehouse lists its margarita towers in 48-ounce and 72-ounce sizes. The Alehouse makes them with Jose Cuervo tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and sour mix. Meanwhile, Papi Grande's in Amherst, New York, sells an 88-ounce tower.

For comparison, a typical single margarita is usually 8 to 16 ounces. This means a large tower can hold the equivalent of roughly 4 to 11 standard-sized margaritas. This is why most restaurants that offer margarita towers explicitly market them as beverages for two or more people to share, not for one person alone.

There's no fixed alcohol content that applies to all margarita towers across the board. But the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism does define one U.S. standard drink as containing 0.6 fluid ounces of pure alcohol—which is the amount found in a 1.5-ounce shot of 80-proof liquor like tequila.

As such, a margarita tower could contain the equivalent of approximately 6 to 15 standard drinks total, depending on the recipe.
