Unlimited pasta? At Olive Garden? Yup. It's a real thing with the restaurant's current promotion. However, a pair of diners said it comes with a catch.
Recently, Florida-based teen @tvgirl5673 visited Olive Garden with a friend to test out the promotion. They weren't expecting the plates following their first pasta serving.
Olive Garden's Never-Ending Pasta Deal
Olive Garden first released the promotion in 1995. In this economy, it's hard to believe they brought it back.
There is a special menu for this offer, and the price varies by location. One Business Insider article details the experience of a woman at the Times Square location, where the promotion started at $20.99 with an extra $4.99 for unlimited protein.
One of the most exciting things about this promotion is that you get to mix and match pasta, sauces, and proteins to create your own personalized dish.
Is There a Catch?
The catch, according to @tvgirl5673 and the Business Insider article, is that the plates you order after your first dish get smaller. In the video, @tvgirl5673 shows viewers the size of the first plate of pasta in the restaurant's big, standard pasta bowls. They show their second dish, and it's significantly smaller.
“Olive Garden never ending pasta is a scam,” the text overlay on the video says. “Bowl gets smaller after the first.”
However, many viewers disagree with the smaller portions being a scam, pointing out that at the very least you get what you paid for (the first plate) and however much more pasta you can eat.
“It's $15 for NEVERending food like what more do you want?” says one comment.
“It's also to prevent food waste, ppl will order more and more, then end up wasting a full plate,” another shares.
“How is it a scam when it's still… unlimited…,” someone else points out.
“But it is still UNLIMITED. they do that to control waste….sorry you had to order 3 refills of pasta instead of 2 giant bowls,” another person chimes in.
However, some agree with @tvgirl5673.
“It is a scam!! Don't matter if it's unlimited it's a smaller portion so clearly it is limited,” one says.
