Woman finds MacBook for sale at value village. Then she realizes it belongs to a Washington man—and his password hint is ‘best worst movie’

Thrift stores are a funny kind of lost-and-found. Every so often, it's possible to find a device that still has remnants of its previous owner.

One thrift shopper is going viral for trying to crack the movie-related password code found on a MacBook. The password and profile, she said, were one last trace from the previous owner.

Content creator Noël (@imfriendswithallmy) shared footage of herself in a Value Village in Woodinville, Washington. She was addressing the apparent former owner of a MacBook she found for sale there. Her video has since accumulated more than 860,000 views.

“Michael Smith from Washington,” Noël said, filming in the middle of the store. “Your old MacBook is here at the Value Village in Woodinville. Your password hint is ‘best worst movie.' And this is what you look like.”

Noël brought her camera close to the open laptop screen, which showed Smith's profile picture.

“It's $22.99, but if it was donated on accident and you want it back, it'll be $500,” Noël said. “Just kidding.”

Noël closed her video by asking her viewers if they had any ideas as to which movie could possibly qualify as the “best worst movie” for Smith's password. They flooded her comment section with their guesses.

“Troll 2,” one viewer commented. “There was a documentary on it called Best Worst Movie.”

“‘The room,'” another wrote. “No caps and no spaces.”

“My best worst movies are Dude, Where's My Car and Idiocracy,” a third offered.

Is there a cultural consensus on the ‘best worst movie' of all time?

There is no single, universally agreed-upon answer to what counts as the “best worst movie.” Critics and news outlets alike tend to rank “so-bad-it's-good” films differently depending on the list. The 2009 documentary “Best Worst Movie” chronicled “Troll 2's” transformation from widely mocked flop to beloved cult classic, complete with sold-out midnight screenings. A Yardbarker ranking of “the greatest bad movies of all time” specifically recommends watching “Troll 2” alongside its documentary as a double feature.

“The Room” is the one other movie that shows up again and again as “Troll 2's” chief rival for the best-worst crown. Shortlist's ranking of “the best worst movies” leads with “The Room.” Even a critic contributing to Rotten Tomatoes' page on the “Troll 2” documentary wrote, “I still prefer The Room, though.”
