Living in a large urban area like Los Angeles is a dream for many career-minded individuals. But not all experiences in the city are positive. One entitled person can muck up a perfectly good day.

Banbeige (@banbeige) posted a video that received more than 559,000 views. In it, she alleges that a man who yelled at her months earlier for using the sidewalk relitigated old drama. This time, she got his words on camera.

‘This guy walking his dog yelled at me'

Banbeige claims that the man yelled at her for not moving into the street months prior. She refused to move off the public sidewalk for him or his dog, which apparently led to a second discussion.

It's unclear how they started talking, but in her clip, the man discusses his “entitlement” to the sidewalk.

“I know that you feel entitled to the sidewalk, but [you] call me entitled to the sidewalk. So it's a shared entitlement,” the man says. “I assume you're smart. As a human being, it's harder to maneuver a person and a dog.”

The man says he'll do his best to stay out of her way. But he doubles down by asking Banbeige if she “[has] anything else” she'd want to say about the situation.

The content creator responds, “We're all good, man.” But this doesn't land well.

The man cuts her off as she tries to tell him to enjoy his dog walk, adding, “When you say snide things to me … you're not.”

Banbeige walked away and ended the clip.

Commenters ask for more information

While many commenters took Banbeige's word for how the situation transpired, others wanted more context.

One viewer, who wanted to know more about the situation, said, “She might have said something rude or asked him to move out of the way, and when he started explaining, she records him AND puts his face on the internet … I would love to see his side.”

Another commenter said, “Maybe his dog is reactive, and he is trying to avoid a bad situation [what's] the context of this???”

But few viewers said anything specific to defend the man in the clip. Instead, they argued that his behavior wasn't appropriate.

“The mansplaining and condescending tone were absolutely rage-inducing (on top of the fact that what he was saying was absolute trash). Your reaction was so good though!” a viewer said.

“[I] have big dogs, and when someone else is on the sidewalk I either step to the side or I [put] my dog in a sit and let the person pass ON THE SIDEWALK ….. no one should have to walk in the street. That's so ridiculous and dangerous,” a viewer added.

Who has priority on the sidewalk?

Terrible walkers ruin the experience for everyone, regardless of the city. The New York Times, for instance, published a piece lamenting bad pedestrians.

In it, content creator Matt Bass says people who are “unaware of their surroundings” are true bad actors. But what about entitled folks?

Unfortunately, there's no specific rule stating that dog walkers or regular bystanders have priority on the sidewalk in Los Angeles.

The question, then, becomes a moral or ethical one. And while the topic surrounding whether dog walkers should have priority on sidewalks is somewhat niche, at least one authority has weighed in on the issue.

Lizzie Post, an etiquette expert, writes, “To people with dogs (including me): Pay attention to your surroundings. Taking up the whole sidewalk is not appropriate.”

If the situation Banbeige described is true, the general public is more likely to see her Highland Park neighbor as the villain. At the very least, most of Banbeige's commenters aren't buying the man's claims about “shared entitlement.”
