Gisela (@heyitsgisela), filming from the front seat of her car in Temple, Texas, says she left a Cracker Barrel angrier than she arrived. It wasn't the cleared table that did it; it was how the manager handled it.

‘I Shouldn't Have Paid'

Gisela begins the video by jokingly saying she “left without paying,” before adding that she did pay but feels she shouldn't have.

She says she and her companion had ordered and were waiting on food when the cold got to her, so they stepped off to browse the gift shop.

“We're looking around for not even five minutes,” Gisela says. Then, she says they came back to a wiped-down table and a drink in the trash.

The hostess was apologetic and, by her account, went for the manager. Gisela says she hadn't pushed for anything: “I hadn't made a big deal. It happens; it was fine.”

How Did the Cracker Barrel Manager Handle the Issue?

The manager arrived with a different tone. Per Gisela, she opened with the fact that the restaurant couldn't refund drinks that weren't theirs, then said bussers clear any table the second it looks empty—so Gisela “should have communicated” she was coming back.

“Why are you trying to put blame on me?” Gisela said she asked, pointing out that their belongings were still on the table and the food had never come. “You're supposed to be the manager trying to make things better and fix things.”

Gisela says the manager told her she'd already been apologized to, but she wasn't buying it.

“She had not apologized to me yet. She just came in hot,” Gisela says.

Gisela says she told the manager she was “completely unprofessional” and could go. The manager said, “OK, no problem,” per Gisela's account, and walked off.

Despite having the “worst experience ever,” she paid anyway. “Cracker Barrel, do better,” she says. “Make your managers do better.”

Then, she asks her viewers, “Am I being dramatic?”

Let's see what the people had to say.

‘This Happened to Me at IHOP'

Some people listened to what they wanted to hear in the clip. One woman wrote, “So how were they supposed to know you were coming back? The bus boy doesn't know if you went to the bathroom or left.”

As Gisela said in the video, she had no issue with the table being cleared; her issue was the manager's response.

She also explained in a comment that she had left her purse behind, which should have clued in the busser that she was coming back.

One commenter spoke from experience. “As a former busser who accidentally bussed a table, who actually were outside smoking, we remade their food. That's what should be done,” he said. “I started making sure people were actually done.”

Another said they'd been in a similar situation: “This happened to me at IHOP I took my baby to restroom to change diaper, I left the car seat at table. When we got back our table was clean. They apologized and remade our food. They were really nice.”

But the best comment came from a man trying to shoot his shot. “Manager definitely wrong. All she had to do was acknowledge that a mistake was made and apologize,” he wrote. “Not all managers at Cracker Barrel are like this. I hope u give them or another cracker barrel a chance. If ur ever in Louisiana come by [and] let me take care of [you and your child].”

Shooters shoot.

Restaurant Table Accidentally Gets Cleared: Who Says Sorry?

A Sacramento, California, mother who posts as @issssascatty says Olive Garden staff cleared her table and tossed food she'd paid for while she walked her kids to the restroom.

The problem is that, like Gisela, her bag was still at the booth, yet no one had asked or considered whether they were finished dining.

The manager “couldn't give me an explanation,” she said, as The Mary Sue reported.

Researchers say that type of managerial reflex backfires. In the 2024 study “Don't Shoot the Cook,” communication professors John S. Seiter and Harry Weger Jr. found that blaming the customer was “significantly less effective” than an apology at repairing a restaurant's image.
