Real Places Ancient Greeks Believed Led To The Underworld

With all the specifics the Greeks put into their version of an afterlife, you’d think they’d have all agreed on where the entrance was. But, of course, they didn’t. Various communities across the Greek-speaking world insisted on their own caves, lakes, rivers and deep fissures in the ground as the gateway. I learned this all too well from Percy Jackson and the Olympians! Some of these places were definitely fictional, but some were used as places of worship for hundreds of years, and one of them could actually kill you if you went near it. So let’s look at the most famous portal of all!
