Going to a music festival alongside a reality TV star seems like a good way to get overshadowed unless you're steakhouse royalty.
In a TikTok video posted from Austin City Limits (ACL) Music Festival, Alexis (@alx8177) films himself walking alongside “Love Island USA” star Kassy Castillo. He jokingly recalls the different reasons festivalgoers have been recognizing them.
While Castillo, who appeared as an original cast member on season 5 and a bombshell on season 6, gets stopped by fans of the dating show, Alexis says his claim to fame is Texas Roadhouse.
“The people recognizing us, they're like, ‘oh my gosh, Kassy, Love Island Kassy!'” he says, imitating excited fans. Then, the attention turns to him. It takes a less glamorous turn.
“And then they recognize me, and they're like Texas Roadhouse! Okay, the rolls!” he says, mimicking their reactions. “Is it true that you went back to Texas Roadhouse?”
His video amassed nearly 100,000 views in one day.
Why Texas Roadhouse?
This is presumably a reference to a TikTok video in June, wherein Alexis documents his last week working at Texas Roadhouse. He posted another on Oct. 7 wearing his Texas Roadhouse uniform. In that post, he says he's “Coming back to the job [he] left [four] months ago.”
Alexis has built up a substantial following on his TikTok account, racking up more than 360,000 followers by sharing content about what it's like to work at Texas Roadhouse. His past videos include breakdowns of tip earnings, serving shifts, food hacks, and even a Texas Roadhouse mukbang.
One of his more popular TikToks, with more than 425,000 views, features Alexis dancing inside a Texas Roadhouse restaurant. The text overlay reads, “Didn't get cracked, but just hit a blinker [slang for a disposable vape pen], everyone getting extra rolls and butter.”
Many commenters hyped Alexis up as a celebrity in his own right.
“Nooo because you deserve pr, a collab, or something cause,” a commenter said. “ROADHOUSE BADDIE,” another said.
A third viewer exclaimed: “LOL we saw you by the [shuttle] line … I told my sister [Texas Roadhouse] and she was like OMGGG YESSS.”
Alexis is one of the more popular Texas Roadhouse TikTok celebrities, but he certainly isn't the only one. The chain has become an unlikely source of entertainment on social media, with employees posting behind-the-scenes dance videos, kitchen glimpses, and general day-in-the-life TikToks.
Why Are Texas Roadhouse Rolls So Popular?
Texas Roadhouse rolls might actually be more popular than their steaks, in part because they are baked from scratch every day. They're also free and unlimited, and come served with a cinnamon honey butter on the side.
Texas Roadhouse's famous rolls are “baked fresh every five minutes,” per the chain's website. The company's recipe is proprietary, but copycat recipes are all over the internet. Some descriptions include “fluffy little clouds of joy,” “pure magic,” and “the most amazing rolls in the world.”
They've developed something of a cult following among diners, particularly on TikTok, where fan edits of the iconic dinner rolls get routinely posted.
So who needs reality TV fame when you've got unlimited bread and cinnamon butter?
