A woman who spent two hours waiting in line for a year's worth of free Dunkin' coffee walked away with exactly what she came for. Unfortunately, though, she didn't make it very far before losing the entire prize.
The visibly distraught @_jvon recalls an expensive mistake while sitting in her car. She explains how her local Dunkin' recently closed for a month to undergo renovations before reopening with a promotion offering customers free coffee for a year.
“I waited two hours to get in line,” she says. She explains that she brought her 5-year-old daughter with her and estimates that she was around the 60th person in line.
Jvon says she bought a coffee, a doughnut, and a Gatorade, and that her daughter had secured some swag that included a keychain. She says she also received a book of coupons entitling her to free coffee for a year.
Jvon says the Dunkin' employee placed the book of coupons in the hand she was holding her “piping hot” cup of coffee with. “Can't even hold [the coffee] properly,” she says, “so I'm rushing to my car, and I put the coffee on top of my car with the coupon [expletive] book.”
‘I Left It on Top of My Car'
At the same time, her daughter, who'd gotten some promotional merch from the store, was eager to have her new Dunkin' keychain attached to her backpack. “She's talking to me; a lot's going on,” Jvon explains.
Amid the commotion, she attached the keychain, grabbed her coffee, buckled her kid into the car, and drove off. It wasn't until she dropped her daughter off at daycare that she realized something was missing.
“I [looked] in my seat cause I wanted to look at the coupon books, and it's [expletive] not there. It is not [expletive] there,” she recounts. Then comes her horrifying realization: “I left the [expletive] coupon book on top of my car. I left it on top of my car.”
The creator immediately retraced her route but says the coupons were nowhere to be found.
“Someone is enjoying my misfortune right now,” Jvon laments. For a daily Dunkin' drinker, this momentary lapse in memory might've cost her a decent chunk of change.
Her video has gotten more than 29,000 views.
What Does ‘Free Dunkin' for a Year' Actually Mean?
Despite the name of the promotion, winning free Dunkin' for a year doesn't necessarily mean free coffee every single day.
At some Dunkin' openings, the prize coupon booklet includes four coupons a month. That averages out to one free coffee a week.
When a Dunkin' store in Stratford, Connecticut, reopened in January 2026, the first 50 customers received “a coupon book containing four free medium hot or iced coffee coupons per month for 14 months.” The coupons were only eligible for use at that specific location.
Coupon books given out at a Dunkin' store that reopened in Alexandria, Virginia, in September 2026 followed the same template. They allowed customers to receive “four free medium hot or iced coffees per month for 14 months.” Online, coffee lovers have reported the same deal.
Can Dunkin' Replace a Lost Coupon Booklet?
Unfortunately for Jvon, replacing lost Dunkin' coupons isn't as simple as just asking the company. The company's general terms state that “Dunkin' is not responsible for and will not replace late, lost, stolen, damaged, expired, undelivered or undeliverable” coupons, although these provisions don't specifically address the promotional booklets given at grand reopening events.
This matters because almost all Dunkin' locations are independently owned and operated franchises, meaning these coupon books are typically handed out by the individual store owners instead of corporate. The rules for Jvon's specific giveaway haven't been established, so her best bet at snagging a new coupon book would be contacting her location directly.
