A woman sent her husband to get a cake from Costco. Then he came back with two separate cakes, both of which weren't the correct flavor.

J Roo (@jboo_tay), a mother of two, posted a video that received more than 287,000 views. In it, she films her husband, who apparently ordered the wrong cake.

The content creator appears to have wanted a marble cake half sheet—half chocolate batter and half vanilla, which gives it a “marbled” appearance. Instead, her husband ordered a separate white cake and a separate chocolate one, resulting in him getting a full sheet cake.

J Roo films various moments both before and after the reveal. In the first clip, her husband says, “ I don't think I ordered this correctly,” while looking at the large, separate cakes.

Another presumably features J Roo's mother or family member, who asks her husband, “ You can build houses and do roofs, but you can't order cake?”

In a third clip, J Roo asks her husband, “ So you ordered two half sheets?” Then the clip cuts to Costco, which shows how he confirmed the details. “White half a sheet, chocolate half a sheet,” he says.

Another clip shows the exact moment he realized he made an error.

“ This don't even make sense. I thought it was half a sheet,” he says while leaving Costco with the goods.

The Daily Meal explains just how much extra cake he ordered. “Costco's bakery section boasts a half-sheet cake that clocks in at a whopping 9.5 pounds–enough to feed up to 48 people,” the publication says.

Two sheet cakes, then, can feed 96. The couple ended up with nearly 20 pounds of cake.

How easy is it to mess up a Costco cake order?

Some commenters were lost on how J Roo's husband ordered two separate cakes. Others, however, immediately understood how he made the error.

Half sheet refers to the cake size. A half sheet, then, is literally “half of a sheet.” It's not a “half” of another product inside a single cake order. But for someone who's ordering a cake for the first time, it may not be obvious.

Similarly, getting a sheet cake that's supposed to have “half chocolate” and “half vanilla” batter can be confusing. While those who are familiar with cakes may know about marble flavors, it may not be immediately obvious to someone who's new to ordering sweet treats.

Is there any other way to order cake from Costco?

In 2026, Costco introduced a way to order cakes via the Costco app, which streamlines the cake ordering system. Prior to this, customers had to come in person to order a cake from Costco. On top of that, Customers could only use a paper option. That lends itself to mistakes such as the one J Roo's husband made.

The company explains that “the feature can be found under the Warehouse Ordering section of the Warehouse tab in the Costco app.”

J Roo and her husband may have been saved the pain of having to freeze a gargantuan amount of cake if they ordered through it. But the content creator isn't complaining too much. She says that “one can never complain about too much cake.”
