Merrick Garland, the U.S. Attorney General, has appointed a special investigator to “monitor” the ongoing criminal investigations of Donald Trump.

The lawyer in question is longtime federal prosecutor Jack Smith, and he will oversee this investigation, which contains several strands on Donald Trump’s efforts to subvert the 2020 election, in addition to the mob summons during last year’s deadly assault on the Capitol.
Not to mention the unauthorized White House documents he allegedly dragged with him from office…

By Smith’s account, his ultimate mission is to move the investigation forward expeditiously to the appropriate outcome and consequences.
