A weird Donald Trump warns military men about «trophy wives»

In keeping with presidential tradition, Donald Trump delivered a speech to the freshly graduated cadets of the West Point Military Academy.

But what was supposed to be a solemn speech, in keeping with tradition, quickly deviated from its usual framework: Trump, visibly a bit off-key, embarked on a lengthy tirade about “trophy wives”, a passage widely deemed strange and particularly inappropriate by many observers.

The president shared his thoughts on real estate mogul William Levitt’s professional career, according to HuffPost and USA Today, and then veered into his personal life!

He claimed that Levitt had a divorce to marry a «trophy wife», adding that «it didn’t end very well for him».

Donald Trump, approaching his 79th birthday and still married to his third wife Melania Trump, 55, whose conspicuous absence since the start of his second term has fuelled rumours, went on to give the cadets his very personal take on, again, «trophy wives».

«I must tell you. A lot of trophy wives, it doesn’t work out», said Trump, to the surprise of many present at the event. 

Trump then persisted, concluding this very personal anecdote about the late William Levitt by stating that «it made him happy for a little while at least», before noting that the man eventually remarried… to another wife.
