After 20 years, Oprah Winfrey has announced the upcoming closure of her girls' academy in South Africa. The former television host will officially wind down operations at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in 2027, a school she founded in 2007 with the goal of providing a quality education to promising young girls.
Located in South Africa, this private school served students in grades 8 through 12 and was dedicated to developing future leaders by providing an environment conducive to their academic and personal growth.
At the end of the 2027 school year, the campus will be handed over to the Gauteng Provincial Department of Education, according to Oprah Daily. Despite this change in management, currently enrolled students will be able to continue their education without interruption and will continue to receive financial support to complete their studies.

Although Oprah Winfrey will no longer be directly responsible for the school's administration, she wishes to continue her commitment to the education of young women. After the last students graduate, she will launch a new scholarship program that will expand her support to even more young girls.
According to a representative for Oprah Winfrey, quoted in People, this initiative will “double the number of girls who have access to education through this model.” It's a way for the businesswoman and philanthropist to continue the mission that has guided her since the academy's founding: to give young women the tools they need to reach their full potential.
