The 77th Cannes Film Festival is officially open!

At the opening ceremony, hosted by Camille Cottin, Meryl Streep was honored with an honorary Palme d’or for her significant presence in the world of cinema since her early days in the industry.

Upon receiving the award, Meryl Streep received a long and touching standing ovation from the crowd at the ceremony.

It was a momentous occasion for the 74-year-old actress, who is undoubtedly brimming with talent.

In fact, it was from the hands of French actress Juliette Binoche that the legend received the famous Palme d’Or.

According to France Info, it had been 35 years since Meryl Streep last appeared at the Cannes Film Festival, the last time being in 1989 to receive the Prix d’interprétation féminine for the thriller film Un cri dans la nuit.
