Are you actually joking?’: Texas woman orders a Guinness and well tequila at a small-town suburban bar. Then she gets the tab

A new Austinite took a trip to Buda, Texas, only to be surprised by the cheap drink prices. Now, she's spilling where she got a well tequila and a Guinness draught for $13.50 altogether.
Lauren Laguna (@laurenlaguna___) posted a video that received more than 19,000 views. In it, she posted a receipt from a bar that offered “crazy” cheap drinks.
“We're in Buda, by the way … Buda, Texas. But no, I'm like, I'm done. $13.50 for two drinks is crazy,” Lagua says.
Buda is a small town around 15 miles from Austin, Texas. Commenters identified the bar as Nate's Coffee & Cocktails, which has been a mainstay in the community since 2016.
“I miss when drinks at bars were this cheap,” Laguna adds.
Other spots with inexpensive drinks
In the comments section, multiple viewers shared their love for Nate's. A few viewers, however, had a number of other recommendations for cheap drinks in the same area.
“Workhorse in Austin has $3 to $7 drinks, [every day], all the time,” one commenter said.
Another commenter said, “Go to Progress too! Pinballz has $3 draft beers for happy hour all day Monday and [every] day between 3-7. … Thursday is tall boy Thursday, $3. Main Street Pizza has 1/2 off pitchers on Thursday.”
A third commenter said, “I like Willie's Joint better; it's a little farther up the road. Don't confuse with Willie's Icehouse.”
How expensive is a pint of beer, on average?
While commenters were aware that Nate's and another of the Austin-adjacent hotspots have cheap beers, they didn't name an exact price to dictate what “cheap” really is. Since 2020, the price of beer and other alcohol has steadily grown, per Toast.
And while some spirits have only marginally increased in price, there's been a noticeable difference in costs in the United States as of 2026.
VinePair, a publication dedicated to spirits, mapped out the average price of a pint of beer in all 50 states. It found that in states such as New York and California, an average pint rounds up to $8. Meaningfully, an average beer in Texas costs $5.98, which is still around $1 higher than many of Nate's draft picks.
The median, it says, is $6.52. Meanwhile, Toast reports that the median price of a beer in September 2026 was $6.65.
What about cocktails?
Prices for cocktails, it seems, have increased significantly. In some areas of the country, such as New York, cocktails can cost $30+, per Restaurant Business. The average price for a mixed drink, however, wildly changes depending on the state.
VinePair also published a list of average drink prices for a classic—the margarita. Unsurprisingly, New York has the most expensive margaritas, coming in at a whopping $14.01. In Texas, they usually cost around $11.26.
Buda—and by extension Austin—has multiple hotspots that can quench someone's thirst without emptying their wallet. Laguna says she regrets not stopping by earlier.
