Cracker Barrel worker shows customers why their food ‘may taste weird’—you’re not going to like this

A Cracker Barrel employee has apparently posted an expose about how unclean their location is. And according to the employee, there's even more to unpack.

A TikTok account, Krashout Karma (@chromeheartzarchive), posted a video that received more than 307,000 views. In the post, they said that “mold” grows on various equipment in their Cracker Barrel Old Country Store. They also alleged that the location isn't engaging in basic tenets of food safety.

‘These Barely Get Cleaned'

The content creator slammed their Cracker Barrel Old Country Store location for a number of apparent grievances, many of which could be health code violations.

“These are the racks that food is placed on,” they said, including an image of a rack with visible dirt and grime on it. “These barely get cleaned ONCE a week.”

“The pan, as you can see, is filled with stains and hasn't been cleaned,” they added, while again showing photo proof of a pan that appeared to be grimy and unclean, which by itself is a potential food safety violation.

They moved on to a more glaring issue—mold. The content creator posted screenshots that allegedly came from the location, which depicted mold spores growing on pans and equipment. The content creator alleged that the store doesn't clean the mold off the pans.

Finally, they posted a screenshot of a number of open containers in-store. They said that a container of bacon and another container with food in it were left out “overnight.” The food inside the containers was allegedly used during service the next day.

Other Allegations

In a later video, the content creator added to their previous allegations, discussing specific food products that may not be clean.

They stated that “the MAJORITY” of food at Cracker Barrel is placed in a hot-box for “backup during service.” “Greens Beans, Spinach, & Pinto Beans are exempt and are instead preserved in the hotbox overnight,” they added.

They also said the overall cleanliness in their store led to actual contamination issues.

“We have some workers that are in charge of cleaning ovens,” they said. “There are a few occasions where the chemicals won't be thoroughly cleaned out, and now 4% of your mac and cheese is mixed with Oven Cleaner.”

‘I Would Not Be OK With People Getting Sick'

In the comments section, viewers focused on the abhorrent working conditions. Multiple commenters, for instance, asked why a health inspector hadn't noticed the issues the content creator pointed out. A few viewers, however, had a question for the content creator.

“As an employee, why [don't] you clean it and throw out the old food?” one person asked.

The content creator responded, “I work a position that's all about cleaning, and that's as far as I'll [go]. Whatever isn't listed on my job description, I need a raise to do it.”

Some viewers, then, called the content creator out for posting the location without assisting with cleanup. A few pointed out that the situation was worth reporting to a health inspector—not posting online. Others told the content creator to actually clean up the mess.

“You're the trash [expletive] kind of employees that kitchen managers [expletive] hate. You SEE a problem but do nothing to address it. You'll NEVER amount to anything. Congratulations,” one viewer said.

Another commenter added, “My job or not, I would not be ok with people getting sick because their food is covered in mold. Seeing stuff that's wrong and doing nothing is part of the problem.”

Where is This Cracker Barrel?

Other viewers asked how this particular Cracker Barrel even stayed open if the content creator's allegations were true. That led to another question: Where did this happen?

Krashout Karma did tag a Cracker Barrel Old Country Store located in Branson, Missouri, in the caption. It's unclear, however, if this is the correct location. Later, they stated that commenters who wanted to avoid the store they were discussing shouldn't “come to Texas.”

The content creator themself also stated that their location almost shut down a year prior to their post due to alleged food safety issues. It's still unclear, however, which location they're discussing in their post.
