Mornings are hectic for some. People rush to get ready for the day and may not have the time to sit down for breakfast. So they may order through an app at the tap of a button.

Although it's a convenient alternative, it may not be if you're ordering from somewhere that doesn't serve this meal all day. Before you open your app, one McDonald's manager warns about the deadline.

What is this McDonald's manager PSA?

Las Vegas-based TikToker and McDonald's manager Esmeralda (@justesmeee_) primarily posts content about her job. This installment is about “ordering breakfast through the mobile app.”

“All right, look. If you order breakfast through the mobile app, you have to check in or pay up by or before 10:30,” she advises. “Even if you placed it before 10:30, we don't get it until you either hit ‘check in' or you pull up to the location.”

So, what happens if customers don't do this? “Once 10:30 hits, the system automatically cancels it,” she warns.

To drive the point home, the content creator reiterates the warning in the caption, “You HAVE to hit ‘I'm already here' or pull up before 10:30.”

‘Don't know how many times I've had to tell people this'

Esmerald's PSA garnered over 21,000 views, and it ignited a debate in the comments section. Some did resonate with her take.

“THISSS like YES I heard THAT YOU PLACED IT ON TIME but you weren't HEREEEE on time. LIKE???” one viewer commented.

“I don't know how many times I've had to tell people this. It's like you know when breakfast ends,” a second agreed.

“I had someone order like 4 meals and pulled up after 10:30. [So I had] to explain this same thing,” a third concurred.

Meanwhile, others were virtually rolling their eyes.

“I be in the drive thru and I'm still late. They don't even give me my [frappe],” one commenter stated.

“Well when you gotta get stuck in the [drive-thru] for 10-15 mins it ain't ya fault,” another remarked.

A third even proposed a loophole: “If I place it for front counter and mark I'm already there so they make it I'll warm it up at home if needed.”

Why does the McDonald's app do this?

The McDonald's app uses the customer's location to suggest ordering from the closest store. Like clockwork, the app switches to the lunch menu at the stroke of 10:30 am (or 11 am, depending on the store).

While these times are the cut-off for in-person and online ordering, the software program appears to be more stringent with mobile order times than initially led on, as discussed in the r/McDonaldsEmployees subreddit, where one person asked, “Breakfast ends at 10:15am?”

Many alleged former and current employees chimed in, explaining in detail how the system works.

When 10:15 am rolls around, the “ POS usually will not ring up a breakfast mobile” because it goes through a “change over” that begins “15 minutes before the end of that menu.”

Moreover, this “largely depends on where you are,” and “if you show up after 1030 to pick your order up it will have been canceled and refunded even if your order was placed before the [cut-off].”

This is because the system is allegedly “designed like that to ensure there is food available before changeover.”
