Dealership denies woman car because of her credit. Then she tries Carvana: ‘I have bought 2 cars from Carvana, never had a problem’
Having bad credit makes life significantly more difficult. It can be hard to rent an apartment, make big purchases that require a loan, or even get certain jobs.
One of the most common struggles for people with a low credit score is buying a car. You may struggle to get approved, and even if you do, the down payment and interest rate are usually much higher than they are for people with good credit.
But according to one woman on TikTok, if you get denied at a dealership, there is one car-buying platform where you may still have hope: Carvana.
In a recent video with over 20,000 views, creator Indya (@vibes.indya) shares her experience with the platform and offers tips for those with low credit.
Why did she choose Carvana?
In the clip, Indya shows off the Mazda Carvana delivered to her, celebrating in the driver's seat with her new keys in her hand. Then, the video cuts to her explaining why she recommends the platform.
“If you cannot buy a car and you keep getting declined by dealerships… your credit is bad, you need a car bad. Go to Carvana,” she says.
She shares this is the second car she has bought through the company.
“I know y'all be like, don't buy from Carvana, you sell to Carvana,” she says. “I have bought two cars from Carvana. Never had a problem.”
One of the main advantages, she notes, is that Carvana may approve shoppers who have had trouble at traditional dealerships.
She says she had already tried dealerships, including Toyota, before turning to Carvana.
“I ended up getting a Mazda CX-30, and I actually do love the vehicle,” she says.
So far, she says the car has not required any major fixes.
“I haven't had any problems out of it as far as engine, transmission, or nothing like that,” Indya says.
The only work she says it needs is rear rotors and brake pads.
She also says she takes each car she buys straight to a dealership for a full inspection.
“They inspected the car, they said nothing is wrong with it,” she says. “It runs smooth.”
She thinks the return period and warranty are additional advantages
Indya also points to Carvana's return policy as another reason she feels comfortable buying through the platform.
“They give you a 7-day return period,” she says.
She also recommends purchasing the extended warranty offered through SilverRock.
“When you get to that page, get the highest mileage you can get even though it's gonna cost more on your car note,” she says. “It's worth it.”
Indya says she used the warranty on the first vehicle she bought from Carvana, a 2018 Chevrolet Trax.
“My Turbo… they covered that Turbo with a leak in it,” she says.
Indya repeatedly stresses that her own experience has been positive. However, she does acknowledge that other buyers may have left disappointed.
“Everybody's experience is different on Carvana,” she says. “I have had a good experience.”
Getting approved does mean you need a regular job, though, she says.
“They really don't like DoorDash. No ride shares, nothing like that,” she says. “They want to see a pay stub to verify that you working.”
She also explains the delivery process is quick once you upload all the required documents.
“They will deliver the next day,” she says. “So long as you upload everything, you should be fine.”
Indya reiterates that Carvana is a good choice for those struggling to get approved at traditional dealerships.
“If you cannot get approved anywhere, Carvana will approve you,” she says. “Put that money down, they will approve you. Have that one pay stub, they will approve you.”
Viewers share their experiences with Carvana
Not everyone in the comments had the same luck.
“Got denied by Carvana too,” one viewer wrote.
“Down payments too high,” another said.
Several replies underneath that second comment, however, said they were able to purchase vehicles with $0 down.
Others said they had a positive experience, just like Indya.
“You aint lying!!!! I got my car Tuesday! Easiest process ever there's not a lot of paperwork,” one commenter wrote.
They said they took the car to a shop the next day and were told it needed rear brakes to pass a Pennsylvania inspection.
“I called Carvana, they told me which shop to take it to and it's completely covered by them,” they added.
Another viewer wanted to know how much Indya paid in total.
“So how much in total you paid? I know it costs to deliver, and pay for the warranty,” they asked.
Indya responded that delivery was free and that she put $1,500 down.
“Depends on [what] car u get,” she added.
Do others recommend Carvana?
Just like Indya said in her video, customer experiences vary widely.
The platform has a 3.5 out of 5 rating on ConsumerAffairs and a 4.0 out of 5 on Trustpilot. Positive reviews mostly focus on how simple and transparent the process is, along with good experiences with customer service and warranty coverage.
Negative reviews, on the other hand, say some vehicles are overpriced or start showing problems soon after purchase. Other reviewers say they don't consider Carvana trustworthy and would rather stick with traditional dealerships.
In one r/Carvana Reddit thread, commenters discussed how positive experiences may be more common than one may think.
“Just a reminder that the company sell thousands of cars a month. A few grumbled remarks is not statistically significant,” one commenter wrote. “Our experience was positive no problems. I agree with other posters that negatives always seem to squeak louder.”
