Have you ever read a novel or watched a movie where the characters discover some previously unknown underground lair or dwelling or city? I have, and I always think, I wonder if anything like that exists in real life. The answer is, yes it does. And it is right underneath a quiet Turkish town. The underground city is literally carved into the rock, and it consists of 18 levels that plunge hundreds of feet below the surface. It could shelter 20,000 people, and it lay secret for centuries until someone followed their runaway chickens and discovered the greatest find of their lives. It’s called Derinkuyu and it is as real as it is fascinating.
