Ian Somerhalder, the actor known for his leading role in the series The Vampire Diaries, reportedly told E! News recently that he and his wife had faced major financial problems. His wife, Nikki Reed, an actress in Twilight, stood by his side and helped him overcome this ordeal.

It's worth noting that a few years ago, the actor had decided to end his acting career. He subsequently launched himself as an entrepreneur, and it was at that point that the financial problems reportedly arose.

He launched Brother's Bond Bourbon with his former The Vampire Diaries co-star, Paul Wesley, and also co-founded, with Nikki Reed, Absorption Company, a business specializing in high-absorption powdered supplements.

In an interview with E! News, he reportedly opened up about the subject.

“I retired from acting seven years ago. I left an incredibly lucrative television career after a financial debacle linked to a poorly managed business (…) And because of fraud, my wife and I ended up with a colossal debt,” Ian reportedly explained.

He reportedly confessed to having some regrets, admitting that he would have preferred to have acted differently.

“I mean, I should have retired after starring in one of the biggest TV series in the world,” he reportedly added, referring to The CW's The Vampire Diaries, in which he starred from 2009 to 2017.

A Strong Relationship

Despite colossal debt and particularly trying times, Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed have shown great solidarity. The actor reportedly emphasized, in an interview with E! News, just how crucial his partner's role was in helping them get through this ordeal. “An eight-figure sum is hard to make up,” he reportedly admitted candidly.

He reportedly went on to explain that, thanks to Nikki Reed's perseverance and negotiating skills, they managed to gradually get back on their feet. However, the couple reportedly had no choice but to make significant sacrifices.

“But Nikki and I made it through. She really negotiated to get us out of that situation, but we sold houses, paintings, cars, watches—everything,” he reportedly said, acknowledging his wife's efforts.

A difficult period that nonetheless speaks to their resilience and their ability to face challenges together.

After turning their backs on the fast-paced life of Hollywood, Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed have chosen a very different daily life, having settled several years ago on a farm in California.

On social media, the couple regularly shares moments from their farm life, highlighting a simpler lifestyle centered on nature and family. Despite this change of course, they haven't slowed down professionally, actively pursuing their entrepreneurial projects. As they told People in October 2024: “We're building three businesses at the same time, all while raising kids.”

Married since April 2015, they form a strong team both in their personal and professional lives, and are now the proud parents of two children: their 8-year-old daughter Bodhi Soleil, and a son born in June 2023.
