Since 2024, Chili's Triple Dipper has been all the buzz, thanks to the internet and the viral fried mozzarella cheese pull. But what stood out was the amount of food for its price point.

For one Memphis woman, what she received made her question how much the Triple Dipper is worth.

What's the problem with her Chili's Triple Dipper?

In her clip, Chili's customer Assaiyah (@herfemalesanctuary) films her Triple Dipper on the table.

“Yeah, I got the Triple Dipper so viral, they upcharge to $17.99,” she says. “Then look at it.”

Her plate consists of two large fried mozzarella sticks, two cheeseburger sliders, three ranch cups, and two thin chicken tenders.

“They play. This [doesn't] even look like $17 worth of food,” she remarks. “They need to stop calling this the Triple Dipper.”

However, Assaiyah decided to vent her frustration with the amount of food by tagging Chili's in the caption: “@Chili's Grill & Bar, you charging $17.99 for this? And I thought it came with 3 burgers,” she wrote.

A Deeper Dive

During an interview with Subplot, Assiyiah revealed she is a longtime fan of the Triple Dipper before it broke the internet. However, how much food she received versus the price threw her off.

“It's something I've always ordered at Chili's. I'm naturally an appetizer person when I go out to eat, and the Triple Dipper has always been one of my favorites because you can get some of their best appetizers together on one platter,” she shared. “When my plate came out, the food itself was good and what I expected, but the price definitely caught my attention.”

Although she understands prices do increase, it still didn't lessen the blow.

“But as a consumer, you're really starting to feel those increases. Paying basically $18 for an appetizer at Chili's surprised me because I've always viewed Chili's as one of those more reasonably priced, family-friendly chain restaurants,” she said. “At a certain point, you start questioning the value you're getting for your money, even when it's something you enjoy ordering.”

Nevertheless, the content creator still intends to visit Chili's again but will exercise caution.

“Yes, I would definitely go back. My service wasn't bad at all, and I still enjoyed the food. The pricing was really the only thing that surprised me. I've always viewed Chili's as one of those more reasonably priced places where you can go and get some decent food without spending too much,” Assaiyah revealed. “So going forward, I'd still eat there, but I'd probably just be more mindful of the prices and what I'm ordering.”

‘That's a double dipper'

Assaiyah's video garnered over 249,000 views. Like the creator, viewers were under the same impression about both the portions and the prices.

“Two sliders, two mozzarella sticks & two tenders for almost $20?!??? Absolutely not,” one viewer remarked.

“That's a double dipper, ain't it [supposed] to be 3 of everything??” another criticized.

“Baby the way that plate would've [gone] back so fast, ['cause] why ain't no crisp on them crispers,” a third stated.

“I remember it used to be $11 and it came with more food than this. It literally used to be considered a shared appetizer platter. They upped the price and started giving less food,” a fourth noted.

“Definitely used to be like 12.99 years ago and came with way more food,” a fifth echoed.

What's the verdict?

Despite being called The Triple Dipper, this appetizer advertises as picking three items and three sauces, not receiving three of each. Likewise, this applies to the 3 For Me, where customers select a main course, starter, and beverage. While certain sides come in pairs for the Triple Dipper, like the Fried Mozzarella and Big Mouth Bites, the Crispers usually come in threes, as the advertisement photos depict on Chili's website. So, it does seem Assaiyah was missing a crisper.

In 2022, Chili's rebranded by overhauling its menu and changing its marketing strategy to attract budget-friendly customers. And it seemed to do the job for the last few years, winning over Gen Z consumers.

However, according to NerdWallet, restaurant prices are 3.4% higher than last year. While the company attempts to keep prices low, varying locations and upcharges on bone-in wings can easily push this appetizer to $20. As the strain on customers' wallets increases, Chili's affordability may be up for debate.
