Man finishes Twisted Tea. Then he realizes there’s still something heavy at the bottom: ‘WATCH YOUR CANNED DRINKS!’

Twisted Tea remains a popular, convenient alcoholic beverage choice that appeals to most palates. When cracking open this cold one, one would expect smooth, sweet notes of a specific flavor of their choice.

Instead, what this woman's husband discovered was allegedly an unexpected twist waiting for him at the bottom of the can.

What is lurking at the bottom of the can?

“So, my husband just finished this Twisted Tea,” TikTok creator Nikiya (@nikiyasgotquestions) says, holding a can of the raspberry-flavored Twisted Tea.

When she shakes it, there is a thumping sound. “I don't know if you can hear that but there's something in there,” she says, zooming in on the opening where there appears to be a wet paper object. “It's like a paper towel or something in there.”

“Something absorbent because that's heavy,” her husband adds. 

Then, the content creator moves the can to shake it back and forth above a trash can, trying to push it to the opening. Successfully, it does appear to be some moist paper.

“That's toilet paper or a paper towel,” Nikiya says. “It's not obviously mold. It's not a rat like we've seen in other cans that have issues.”

According to BroBible, several alleged incidents of people finding dead rodents in their Alani Nu energy drinks in 2024, with a recent one reported in May. Even earlier this month, a video circulated of a man pulling a dead mouse out of his mother-in-law's Alani.

After a heartbeat, she adds, “That's frightening and this is what happens when the FDA no longer has oversight on your products.” 

“How the f– does that happen?” she asks. In the text overlay, she warns, “WATCH YOUR CANNED DRINKS!”

‘No twisted tea for me'

Nikiya's video amassed 1.2 million views–and mass disgust, especially among Twisted Tea drinkers.

“No bc i was just drinking one!!!!” one viewer commented.

“DON'T DO THIS TO ME AND MY FAVORITE FLAVOR,” another remarked.

“Nope. no twisted tea for me. lol I would have thrown up so bad!!” a third stated.

However, some were skeptical of how the paper object wound up there.

“They were both bored. And they wanted to make a TikTok, so they put some paper in their cup. That's it,” one commenter suspected.

“Nah they did that themselves,” a second accused.

But Nikiyah was adamant she and her husband didn't deliberately plant it in the drink.

“If that helps your ability to drink canned drinks, but we definitely didn't,” she said.

Cracking the mystery in the Twisted Tea

In a follow-up video, Nikiya decided to take matters into her own hands and investigate what this could be.

“We're gonna open this can because we all need to know,” she says, using a can opener to grasp the can's edges. “Let's see.”

Next, she twisted the can halfway open, used a knife to pry it loose and pulled the top off with her fingers. Once the lid was open, she unveiled what lay at the bottom: A soaked, bunched-up towel. For a better look, the content creator shook the thing out, confirming it was a soaked paper towel. 

“That's a ball of paper. Like those brown paper towels you get in school or something,” Nikiya says. “I don't know, but regardless, this was in the can. It looks like some paper towel, like industrial paper towel.”

Since Twisted Tea is a malt-flavored beverage, Nikiya can file a manufacturing error report with the Market Compliance Office (MCO) through the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau. However, if the paper towel did cause harm, the incident needs to also be filed with the FDA. Regardless of which agency, the paper towel evidence should be saved.
