Man orders complimentary drink at Las Vegas casino. His server is shocked by what he orders

Free drinks are one of the most talked-about perks of gambling in Las Vegas. They're also one of the most misunderstood. Some visitors assume “free” means “anything you could possibly think of,” leading to some disconnects between expectation and reality.

One cocktail server's latest customer interaction exemplifies that disconnect.

‘You can't make a mango mimosa?'

Content creator Jules (@vegasbornjules) shared an exchange with a guest ordering a complimentary drink on the casino floor. Her video has since accumulated more than 2,200 views.

Jules began her video by outlining “a fun little interaction [she] had with a guest today ordering a complimentary beverage on the casino floor.” Jules said the customer stopped her and asked if she could get him a mango mimosa.

“Ooh, that sounds refreshing, but I'm sorry, we don't,” Jules told him. “I can offer it with cranberry—” 

The customer scoffed at her.

When Jules also told the customer she could make it with pineapple juice, too, that earned her yet another scoff.

“You can't make a mango mimosa?” the customer pressed. Jules said, “No, sorry, I can't.”

Jules finished her video by encouraging customers to never “forget to tip [their] server.” Her viewers shared her irritation in the comment section.

“I hate that response,” one person commented. “It's so disrespectful, especially when you are still talking.”

“Oh wow,” another wrote. “People always seem to think they're entitled. SMH.”

What complimentary drinks can you actually get at a Las Vegas casino?

Free drinks for active gamblers are a long-standing tradition across Las Vegas casinos. However, the selection for freebies is somewhat limited. According to a BroBible article, “casinos are unlikely to give players complimentary top-shelf liquor” or elaborate specialty cocktails. They instead tend to stick to standard drinks—and that comp is meant only for the person actually gambling, not their entire group.

Complimentary drink menus tend to stick to the basics: Standard beer, house wine, well liquor, basic mixed cocktails, soft drinks, coffee, and bottled water. Golden Gate Casino's guide for casino patrons explains that cocktail servers typically pass by tables every 20 to 30 minutes to distribute such drinks. The casino also emphasizes the importance of maintaining proper drinking etiquette while enjoying complimentary beverages.

“It's important to note dealers can neither serve drinks nor speed up cocktail service,” the casino writes on its website. “Everyone loves an open bar, but that doesn't mean it's an excuse for bad behavior. Drinking too much is a rookie gambler mistake that can get you in hot water quickly with the casino and fellow gamblers. Show respect for the game and other players by drinking responsibly.”

All in all, elaborate, made-to-order drinks like mango mimosas require fresh or specialty juice that most bars may not stock by default. These fall outside the standard drinks available for free, which is why Jules could only offer cranberry or pineapple juice as substitutes.
