Nothing says “Happy Birthday!” like a dessert with a candle at your favorite restaurant with loved ones.
This group of friends went to eat in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, to celebrate another trip around the sun. The birthday candle to blow out made it to the table. However, the dessert did not.
‘Can't Even Get a Bite of Cake'
Maddie Brewster (@maddiebrewster_pt) posted a video at Frontera Cocina, a restaurant at Disney Springs. Disney Springs is an entertainment complex that is somewhat of an outdoor mall and a mix of some Disney magic-like games and experiences.
In the video, the group of friends watches a plate with a single lit candle arrive at the table. The candle is not placed in a dessert; rather, it is standing straight up on an otherwise empty plate. It is placed in front of the birthday boy, and he blows it out.
“There you go. I hope you're hungry—for nothing,” someone at the table says.
The birthday boy and Brewster laugh.
“I've never seen anything like this,” she says.

‘I Have Some Questions'
The video has over 79,300 views and more than 5,000 likes.
Viewers don't get what exactly is going on here.
“I don't get it. Do you have dietary restrictions? Or did you say it's your birthday, and that's what they brought out for you?” asks one comment.
Brewster replied, “Nope! No dietary restrictions. We just said we were there to celebrate his birthday and this is what they brought out when they sang happy birthday.”
“Omg if I was the server I'd be sooo embarrassed to do that,” says one comment.
“This is so depressing, why would they do that??” another person asks.
Brewster replies, “Right!? Like I'm glad I was in a good mood and could laugh about it, but this could have made someone sad on their birthday!”
“I bet they reuse the candle til it's a stub,” another person says.
What's Up With Frontera Cocina?
Frontera Cocina is known for its upscale Mexican cuisine. It has prestigious accolades like a Michelin star, and the restaurant's chef is a 7-time James Beard Award winner. Lunch options vary between $17 for Huevos Rancheros and $38 for Camarones al Coco.
Some restaurants are a bit more generous than others. Sometimes, if you let a server know it's your birthday, they will bring you a dessert on the house. Others will charge you for it. There is no standard protocol for this kind of thing, and it's at the discretion of the restaurant. Still, just a plate and a candle is kind of odd.
