New Jersey bride-to-be gets her engagement photos back. Then she sees what the photographer did to her nose: ‘The disrespect’

Wedding and engagement photography is a delicate thing — so much so that photographers often charge a premium for such occasions. Stakes are so high that it takes a special kind of professionalism to avoid fumbling a once-in-a-lifetime memory.

One bride is going viral for sharing her shock after receiving her photos back, and noticing something was off about them.

‘He was super apologetic'

Content creator Lynne Mazouz (@lynneandtonic) shared how she looked in her engagement photos before and after they were edited. The video has since accumulated more than 7.6 million views.

Mazouz's video began with a fully edited photo she'd gotten back from her engagement photographer. The photo featured Mazouz and her fiancé on vacation in Greece, standing facing each other in profile, with a large body of water in the background. Both were dressed up and wearing white.

Mazouz then zoomed into the image until her own nose, which appeared to have a straight bridge, filled the frame. Then, she showed an original, unedited image.

Her nose was a completely different shape. It sported a new curve. The photographer had apparently opted to give her a digital nose job without her asking for one.

“WHOSE NOSE IS THAT,” Mazouz wrote in her caption.

In her comment section, she revealed she'd had her fiancé reach out to the photographer to rectify the mistake.

“I had Bennett message him and ask him to stop editing my nose,” she wrote. “And he was super apologetic.”

What did commenters say?

Viewers in Mazouz's comment section were appalled that the engagement photographer would edit her nose without consent. Some even speculated it was an editing accident, saying they “don't think it was purposeful.”

“He was editing out that pole behind you using generative AI and did not realize AI decided to also give you a new nose,” one person speculated. “Photoshop generative AI is either really good or really bad.”

Many viewers called the move “disrespectful,” with one viewer saying, “Of course it was a man.”

“Girl you may not know it but that photographer got beef with you,” a viewer commented. “What an odd thing to adjust on someone's engagement photos???”

“To modify someone's physical features is actually insane!!!” another wrote. “As a photographer I firmly believe you only edit out things that are not permanent (pimples, scratches, etc).”

Others shared similar experiences and grievances they'd had with their own photographers.

“A school yearbook photoshopped out my [daughter's] cleft lip scar,” one person wrote. “That pissed me off.”

“Our engagement photographer edited hair [into] my husbands bald head,” another commented with a sarcastic smile emoticon.

“Me and my husband did a photoshoot with his family in Korea,” a third said. “We got the pics back and we were 15 kg skinnier photoshop style.”

What kind of edits are customary for wedding or engagement photographers?

Inside Weddings reports that while slight enhancements are the norm for photo editing, it's customary to only drastically edit clients' appearance if they ask for specific retouches.

“A seasoned professional is unlikely to remove a mole or whiten teeth without you asking them to,” Inside Weddings writes. “As that could easily be viewed as an insult.”

Photographer Justin Gamble echoes this sentiment on his website, explaining that things like color correction and slight retouching of skin and stray hairs is the norm. But actual body alterations, such as “slimming certain areas or enhancing certain features,” must be specifically requested.

“If you'd like to request body adjustments, I ask that you share your preferences clearly prior to the post-processing of your photos,” Gamble writes. “It can be an uncomfortable topic to address … so I always strive to respect your wishes while maintaining a true-to-life representation of your day.”
