PGA increases prizes for winners
The PGA Tour will increase its prize money for the big tournaments in the upcoming campaign (2022-23) as it faced a challenge from the LIV GOLF Tour.

Winnings awarded by the PGA will be made for eight of the major invitational tournaments with $25 million, up from $20 million this season for the Players Championship.

There will also be $145 million in additional bonuses, including $75 million for the FedEx Cup, where 70 players will compete, not 125 as before.

This increase came about because of the LIV Golf.  The increase came as a result of the PGA Tour presenting the largest prize packages in history to entice the PGA Tour’s top performers in a campaign that would expand to 14 tournaments from eight.

The public wanted more impact in the regular season at the FedEx Cup, while strengthening the tournaments where players must compete in duals.

The LIV Tour is funded by Saudi Arabia. The tour led by former champion Greg Norman offers to poach the best players in the world a fortune to its stars. For its part, the PGA Tour has suspended the players who have defected.

The 2022-23 campaign will begin with the Fortinet Championship, which will be held in Napa from September 15 to 18.
