Philadelphia woman Digs Into Bowl From Cava. Then She Takes A Look At What’s On Her Fork—It’s Not Food: ‘I NEED ANSWERS’

A Philadelphia Cava customer is in awe of what she says she found in her bowl. She vows to never eat there again. Several other viewers share their experience and why they also stopped eating there.

In a viral video, Sierra Wright (@sierrawright) shows viewers the bowl she says she got from Cava. The dish is filled with arugula, lettuce, jalapeños, corn, onions, and more—more than she bargained for.

“SAD sad day over here…my @CAVA days are over,” Wright captions the video.

It has over 38,000 views and 600 likes.

‘Looks Like a Normal Cava…'

Wright says she was about to take a bite of her ordinary-looking bowl before she took a closer look.

“This is exactly what I was about to bite into. Looks like a normal Cava,” Wright says before focusing in on her fork. In addition to typical ingredients, it holds a deceased insect.

“Is this like a hornet? Looks like it is, but maybe a moth. … I'm ill; I am sick,” Wright says.

She writes in the caption that her Cava days are “over,” adding a nauseous emoji.

Of course, no one would want to keep eating at a restaurant where they found a bug in their food. In the comments section, viewers shared their experiences with Cava that led them to no longer eat at the chain.

“Cava gave me the worst food poisoning of my life, I ended up hospitalized. … I'll never eat it again,” says one comment.

“This is the 2nd video I've seen of a bug in cava lettuce!!!” another person shares.

“I had [expletive] plastic wrap in my Cava bowl last month! I didn't even bother calling the store. I am forever sick of cava and I used to love it but can never go back!!” someone else mentions.

However, one viewer defended Cava.

“It's a lettuce. Unfortunately bugs can get into a batch. Not cavas fault. This can happen with any bagged lettuce,” they note.

Bugs in Lettuce: Is It Common?

Could this last comment have a point? Could this happen to anyone at any restaurant or even at home? What dangers could eating this bug have had on Wright?

There isn't necessarily a way to measure the probability of finding a bug in your produce, but possibly eating bugs is a consequence of eating natural foods like lettuce. While it may gross you out, “According to the FDA low levels of bugs and other defects pose no inherent hazard to your health,” per an article by findlaw.com.
