Texas State student lives on the first floor. Then she catches a stranger in her living room at 4 am: ‘Do you have my phone?’

A former Texas State University student says she woke up at 4 a.m. to noises coming from her apartment's living room. Then she realized it wasn't just chatter; there were people inside her home.

When the TikToker, who goes by the name Sabtuche (@sabtuche), opened her bedroom door, she says she found not one, but two strangers inside. The creator says the incident happened while she and her best friend were living on the first floor of the Villagio apartment complex in San Marcos, Texas. Her video has since amassed nearly 50,000 views.

The incident on Halloween night

The roommates had deliberately gone to sleep early that Halloween night. Sabtuche explained they both had a 7 a.m. shift the next morning. But around 4 a.m., Sabtuche says she was jolted awake by loud noises coming from elsewhere in the apartment. 

At first, she assumed it was friends visiting from out of town. She says she “threw open my bedroom door so fast,” upset and yelling, “who is that?”

Turns out, it was a complete stranger, “a boy I've never seen in my entire life,” recalls the creator. The man seemed just as confused. She says, “He realizes he's made a mistake…he does not realize who I am.” That's when things got even weirder.

“A second boy, a blondie comes around from my best friend's bedroom,” she says. When she demanded to know who the men were, one of them asked, “Well, do you have my phone?” 

‘They sprayed … us'

The creator says she responded, “nobody has your phone here, brother.” At about the same time, however, she says she noticed something was physically wrong. Her eyes and skin started to burn. The two men reportedly jumped over her balcony. She chased after them, but they escaped in an FJ Cruiser. At the same time, Sabtuche's roommate called the police.

That's when she learned why her eyes were burning: “They sprayed bear mace at us two girls.”

The two men were arrested that same night in Kyle, Texas. Sabtuche says she knows their identities because she saw their arrest record.

The story didn't end with their arrest, however. Less than two weeks later, she says she was sitting in a dining hall on Texas State's campus when she looked up and recognized the blond man who had been in her apartment. She didn't confront him.

What should you do if you're sprayed with bear mace?

Bear mace (or bear spray) is an aerosol spray that contains a concentrated red chili pepper extract called capsicum. If you are exposed to bear mace, or a form of pepper spray, move into an area with fresh air, flush affected areas with water, and remove clothing that may have come into contact with the spray. It's important to avoid touching the affected area.

The creator ultimately came to believe that the men had entered her apartment by accident, speculating that “they were hallucinating on something.” Still, the consequences could have been lifelong. “I could have lost my eyesight,” she recalls. “Crazy.”
