The single Perfume from the album Britney Jean was released in 2013. Britney Jean explored more personal and introspective themes, presenting a different side of Britney Spears to some of her earlier, more upbeat and carefree tracks, and didn't receive as much praise as some of her earlier albums.

In 2013, Britney began a residency in Las Vegas, Britney: Piece of Me, which concluded in 2017.

In 2018, Britney Spears caused confusion when she cancelled her second Las Vegas residency, Britney: Domination. Something is clearly wrong in the star's private life.

Guardianship

As Britney wages a battle against her guardianship and father Jamie Spears, Netflix releases the troubling documentary Britney vs Spears in 2021. Britney's fans support her in her efforts.

#FreeBritney

The Free Britney movement attracted widespread attention and media coverage in 2020 and 2021, with numerous protests, social media campaigns and public demonstrations pleading for an end to Britney Spears' tutelage.

Freedom

The pop star was granted her freedom when Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny ended her 13-year guardianship on November 12, 2021.

Sam Asghari

Britney Spears got engaged in September 2021 and married trainer Sam Asghari on June 9, 2022. The couple met on the set of the Slumber Party music video, in 2016.

Another divorce

To everyone's surprise, the couple separated after 14 months of marriage, on August 17, 2023.

A Women In Me

On October 24, 2023, Britney Spears published her memoirs, A Women In Me, in which she confides in the most difficult moments of her life. The book is a rare insight into the thoughts of the star who spent most of her life hidden behind a guardianship.
