Donald Trump signaled a sudden shift in tone after days of escalating threats, claiming that the United States and Iran had engaged in «very good and productive conversations» and announcing a temporary pause in planned military strikes.

The announcement came just days after tensions reached a critical point, when Trump issued a 48-hour ultimatum demanding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, threatening to «hit and obliterate» Iranian power plants if the waterway remained restricted. Iran, which had vowed to close the strait to «enemy ships,» responded with warnings of retaliation «with zero restraint,» fueling fears across global markets as oil prices surged and stocks declined.
